Concerts - Favorite of 2016 and Looking Forward To 2017

Going to see Delbert McClinton friday night. Really looking forward to it, but from the sound of his last album, his voice isn't what it used to be. If we can find a hotel room or camp site, we might stick around for Anna Popovitch and Los Lobos Saturday.

I saw a Journey tribute band at our local German summer fest. They were pretty good, and I'm not even a big Journey fan. Crazy part was that the guitar player was the best of the lot (he had the guitar parts down perfect), but he finger picked EVERYTHING. Not a pick for the entire show.

October is starting to stack up for me.
Oct. 7th - METZ at Outer Space
Oct. 15th - Phoenix at College Street Music Hall
Oct. 28th - Beach Fossils at Brooklyn Steel

Brooklyn Steel's a new venue to me. Looking forward to checking it out.

We see a handful of concerts a year, primarily because we have an amphitheater nearby and the lawn tickets are affordable so if it is remotely interesting and we need a night out we go. We also have a few music festivals that bring up and coming and "has been" acts. Loverboy for example was at Sunfest this year among others.

But the best concert I've seen in a very long time Was Jonny Lang. Saw him in a small venue and absolutely loved it. Had great seats and I'm a fan anyway.

The rest of the year I think the only one we have planned is Zack Brown Band, primarily because friends are taking their RV to tailgate all day so we will do that and likely get some lawn seats. Seems like there was something else later in the year but I don't remember. Was going to see Joe Bonamassa but something came up. Maybe next time.

Listening to Metz now. Pretty cool.

Going to this on Saturday - free! Why? Everybody goes to parties. They dance this mess around.

Going to see Haken tonight!!!

Personally I prefer Haken over Dream Theater, in the progressive metal genre

Sithu Aye, some progressive rock/metal guitarist, is opening for them. Went to youtube and listened to about 15 minutes of his new album. His music fits right in with what Haken does. Not to shreddy, fairly melodic, and can get a bit djenty and go in other musical directions. Not bad, but I'm kinda over instrumental guitar stuff at the moment.

Not too big a year for us concert wise so far. We saw Lord Huron a few weeks ago when we landed free tix at the last minute. They were fun to watch. I liked the bass player quite a bit.

and just now, I picked up some tickets for the Foo Fighters who are coming to the Boise area (Nampa Civic Center Arena) because my 17 year old son said he wanted to go with me. I don't need to be asked twice on that one. Tickets have been on sale for a while before I realized, so no floor spot up front this time, as we were able to get at the Gorge. Will be up high on the side, which I thought would be better than tickets for twice as much much further back but lower. It is not a huge arena so should be fun.

This is what the rest of the year is looking like right now. I have tickets for the following:

9/23 - Bruce Campbell (Hail to the Chin Book Tour)
10/28 - Sarah Jaroz
10/30 - Iron & Wine
12/14 - Brian Setzer

Opener tonite is someone named Lucie Silvas. Her band is great, her pipes are too, and she is DAMN easy on the eyes...

Got back from the King's X show.

King's X was awesome, as usual :) Ty Tabor is back to playing a Strat again. Just a regular, white Strat. Though I would swear the nut on it wasn't a stock nut. I think it was some sort of compensated nut, which would make sense for Ty Tabor to use a compensated nut since he does alot of open chord voicings/lets an open string ring out while playing chords.

The touring band with them, Kings Of Spade, had a chick singer that had some pipes on her  Really, really good singer, they kinda reminded me of the band Rival Sons, except with a female singer.
