Coming soon to a road near you

To be fair there’s plenty of lonely highways out west where you could put it in autopilot and take a nap.
But under everyday conditions, no way this is gonna work.

So yer gonna die next year then?

Could be. But the whole autonomous car thing is really in its infancy. Waymo and Cruise use the bay area as their testing grounds, and there are real obvious issues that are a long way from being ironed out. And every single one of those vehicles has a driver ready to take the controls. Even then, there have been wrecks when these vehicles encounter road crews, obstacles and other non nominal situations. They are also a long way from having the ability to react to things like a kid riding a bike on a sidewalk that suddenly hops the curb on to the street. The only way full autonomy will work, is when they are all connected to the same system. Until then, it's a fallacy meant to attract investment capital. Lets talk in a year, and see what the situation down there really is.

The autonomous vehicle tech development is developing very rapidly, and with machine learning tools they are using to develop code, it's only a matter of time until it's perfected. TBH if you took the human element out of operating a vehicle the roads will be much safer and traffic jams will be a thing of the past.

But you are in California and you have regulations....don't forget this is AZ and it sounds like they will be rolling down the road soon.
Tucsonans could start seeing semis without drivers in the next few months. This year, Union Pacific will be the first company to use TuSimple’s trucks without drivers to haul freight from Tucson to Phoenix. Other partners like FedEx, DHL, and UPS will use the trucks for commercial shipments starting in 2023.

I mean I guess on the open roads there is only so much damage that can be done, but I still think this is a lot farther off than what they say. Sincere MOJO if they actually do it. It will be entertaining watching a robot back a 43 foot trailer up to a dock plate.

Will robots still be able to slide off into the ditch every time there's an inch of snow?
What will happen to all the truck stop waitresses?
With no truckers will the nation rates for heart disease and diabetes go down?
Where are television stations going to get fat guys to tell us how the country should be run?
Will there be special bad driver robots made just for Swift?
Will robot drivers still put $10,000 worth of chrome and 400 clearance lights on their trucks?
Will robot drivers still be able to be the first, last, and most of the middle of a 150-vehicle pile-up?
Will robot drivers be able to drive pointlessly in circles around Washington for two weeks?

who will pick up the hitchhikers? Gas, Grass or Ass....no free rides!

Did they give an eta for testing these out in a real city where the lives of its citizens matter?

Kidding bruh. They do seem to be rolling the dice with public safety in your town.

When will autonomous trucks become self aware?
