Achtung! Comic Book Guys

Kick Henry Jackassowski
I have never read a single comic book, so as far as the super heros go I'm not familiar with most of them. Unless they had a tv show or movie. So I have been enjoying the onslaught of comic book movies lately. Since I know nothing of the back stories of the characters everything is new to me. I loved the two new Batman movies (except Batman's stupid voice). I really liked the Ironman movies, X-Men movies etc. The Fantastic Four sucked.

Anyway I watched Thor last night. I was pretty excited about it since a few folks here seemed to really like the movie. Please tell me if I'm missing something, but I thought that one was really lame. Not terrible but average at best. Not even Natalie Portman helped, and I would watch her read the phone book. Help me out am I missing something? I was really excited about Captain America, and the Green Lantern now I'm not so sure.

Well, don't get your hopes up for Green Lantern. Not even whats-her-name's mommy parts can help that one. Was really disappointing.

Captain America is like an Indiana Jones adventure... great fun.

You'll have to be more specific about what you liked and didn't like about Thor... I thought it was pretty good. not Iron Man but at least as good as Iron Man 2 or the Incredible Hulk.

I don't know. I guess Thor vs. the Ice giants didn't do much for me. I would have preferred an Earth based Thor vs. some sort of super villain thing. That's the thing about it, I can't really say what I didn't like it just seemed kind of flat.

I never did watch the hulk redo. The first one was so bad I couldn't live with myself if I got duped into paying for that experience again.

Part of it is slave to the comic story.... you can't stray too far from the "Norse God Punshed by Father... to be Mortal on Earth until he learns his Lesson."

I was shocked that they were able to get into the fantasy elements and somehow make them work in an "Iron Man Reality".

It's FAR better than the Ang Lee one. Let me know if you can't redbox it for a buck. I have the BluRay, DVD, Digital copy version so there might be a way I could get a copy to ya.

My understanding of Thor begins and ends with the Jack Kirby era, but even so, I enjoyed the movie. Personally, I could have done with a whole lot less of the powerless Thor piddling around on Earth and more of the Asgard stuff.

FWIW, I actually liked the Green Lantern movie. Hope this isn't too much of a spoiler, but (highlight to read) I was distracted by the expectation of an inevitable character personality change, which turns out they were holding back for the sequel that'll never be made now. (end spoiler.)
