My wife makes that comment every time that commercial comes on.

A bear sees a bunny rabbit hopping through the woods and calls him over.
He says "Mister Bunny, do you have a problem with shit sticking to your fur?".
The bunny says "No, I don't".
The bear says "Good", then he picks up the bunny, wipes his ass with him and tosses him in the bushes.

I love stories about bears.

They have a tough gig, as proper decorum prevents them from mentioning what their product does in detail, or how their take on it is better than the competition. 20% less shit left behind on the first wipe, even on double nacho Tuesday!!!! All with 30% less ass irritation.

They should seriously consider using different things for the absorbancy demonstrations instead of blue liquid. Chilli, for example, or nacho cheese, or wing grease.

I've often thought about the weirdness of those bears, and also about how tough it is to promote a product no one really wants to talk about (or hear about while you're eating dinner). I mean, how much can you harp on "absorbency" and "strength" and show those blue liquid demos?

As for "why bears?" ...I can only come up with the answer that they're basing it on the old phrase, "Does a bear shit in the woods?" (I always loved the Steve Martin update, "Does the Pope shit in the woods?")

Eddie Murphy did a great rendition of the bear and rabbit joke in his stand-up video, Delirious...IMO one of the best stand-up acts of all time.

Those commercials are THE lame.

Here's two better concepts, right off the top of my head:

A: Have Snuggles the fabric softener bear (if, for some reason they want to retain the bear continuity) poke his head through many layers of Charmin (a la the infamous SNL Alien parody, and I'm assuming they probably have the rights to said Snuggles, but fuck me if I'm gonna research that) and make some pertinent comment. Like, " Wow! that was hard!...But, soft, too!"

B: Mom and two kids are at the store. Mom looks at her list and says "Guys go get the Charmin."
Kids hit the TP aisle, younger kid grabs Brand X off the shelf, older kid slaps it out of his hands. Bewildered younger kid looks up and older kid says, "Get the Charmin."
Younger kid says "Why?"
Older kid says, "Mom said. She should know." Alluding to potty training experience.

Or another version would be, "Dad says. He should know." Delivered with a disgusted lip curl. Alluding to... well, it's better than frickin cartoon bears, eh?
