Carbon Zinc made a…

I cant tell any diff how my Dunlop Mini FFs react w pedalboard power vs alkaline vs old fashioned carbon zinc.
IDK maybe theres a diff in the batteries once they start to die, but Ive never used either long enough to find out.
I typically dont use a battery and plug the FF into the extra out on my Boss TU3 to free up space on my power supply.
Ive experimented with the sag control on my Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus, but results were inconclusive to my ears.
But lately Ive been playing out with a tiny daisy chained board & the FF on battery, so maybe I'll discover some nuances:shrug:
But..... I have a Mythos Golden Fleece on order to see if I prefer it over my mini FFs, and it's gotta run on a power supply.
If the Fleece takes over the job I guess Ill never know.

Today I’m messing with the Behringher TO800 (TS). Using the Volture and turning the power down and strumming at the same there is change, a good one, just as you reduce power until the led goes off. Drop below it and seems to go back to Standard TS sound but lower volume. Above it and the light comes back on and your heading back into TS regular.
The change at lights is fuzz/OD mix.

I did more reading about power dropping getting the Volture. One warning I read was if the pedal digital dropping the power could damage it. Analog is fine.

I have a few power supplies that have one 9v option with a power sag adjustment. I’ve never played with it. I’ll file this under future experimentation with OD pedals.

There are a few OD pedals that can be run at 18v. I have tried that out on a few pedals and it changes the sound. 18v on certain OD’s sometimes feels and sounds like extra headroom. Obviously, don’t try it without some research first. 18v can damage a pedal.

Dropping voltage shouldn't damage anything because it doesn't have any actual storage that could be corrupted during a write function.

1) I am not a fuzz user so I am out with the battery comparison
2) I remember Eric Johnson speaks alot to this. Well EJ uses Fuzz Faces and yes voltage sag and drop will affect ones sound. It really is up to the user to determine if that is what they want to do.
3) Are you a bedroom guitar player, weekend warrior or touring pro? This can affect you react to things. This goes in general for gear period. We as musicians are always looking for the golden goose.
4) I used to love to mess with things in the past and as I got older, just want to play what I personally thinks sounds good. After all, what I think matters most.
5) No matter who you are, you are most likely changing your setup, modifiying things or following trends others speak of that is the up and coming trend. Some items work better for others while they may not work at all for me. Does it really it really matter?

Brother @baimun speaks of Germanium Diodes vs Silicon. Yes the Voltage drop makes a difference and he favors the Tumnus with Ge. Me, I am happy with the clone I build and the mini Tumnus I got from @Pine Apple Slim some years back. My live sound with that board I am satisfied so why seek something that I do not need?

@jrockbridge speaks of sag or voltage adjustment on his PS's. I got them too but did I mess with it? Nah I already have enough trouble trying to work on my next project or song stylings.

We are all different. Go play, have fun!!! 'enuff said!!! I am still alive and to me that is what matters.

LMAO, working on my next board for Surf, Country, Western Swing and Old Blues.
