Bought A Cheap Gretsch

There's probably an Electromatic in my future. I could see upgrading an Electromatic to the Filtertrons that are in the Pro. It might not get the exact sound of the Pro but, perhaps, close.

I’d play a few things with Filtertrons before I committed to the swap. I’ve had a long running love/hate thing with all manner of mini-buckers and adjacent pickups, including Filtertrons.

I had a guitar with TV Jones Classics and wound up selling the guitar because I couldn’t get the bridge pickup to not sound enh. Adjust it up and it’s too spiky. Lower it and it’s anemic and limp. Frequency-wise ‘trons and similarly voiced pickups can we weird in a mix.

Partly I think I’m just more into single-coil type voices, but ‘trons and similar have given me more headaches dialing in a tone vs conventional PAF-derived buckers which usually get the axe because they’re just boring/blah.

Just from a fit/finish/feel perspective the Pro stuff is noticeably nicer than the Electromatic stuff—and I’ve a decent number and seriously considered guitars in both ranges at one point or another. The Electromatic stuff is good, but kind of replacement-level good/giggable guitar whereas the pro stuff feels a bit more luxe.
