Be careful when ordering from Guitar Fetish....

I saw in their "blemish" area they had this Translucent Green tele body for $30.

With shipping it was $40... still a decent price, even if it has a scratch or nick in it someplace.

When the body arrived.... it's OPAQUE green... and not an attractive one at that. Kind of a military green.

Then the "blemish" was the entire thing COVERED in swirly scratches. It was like the thing had never been buffed or clear coated. It seriously looked like it was riding around in the back of someone's car.

They were quick with the email I sent regarding returns/exchanges.... but the thing that really sucks is that they don't refund shipping.... and you have to pay to ship the item back.

So best case scenario... if I return it for a refund via regular mail, I'm out $15. :annoyed:

Apparently you missed my GFS thread.

Any chance you can just live with either ugly finish or strip it and repaint?

You know, I have ordered from them at least 6 times, and every time, something was wrong, or damaged... I will no longer order from them, regardless of their prices...

Fuck those guys. Between this and Andy's lovely experiance I've heard all I need to about their "customer centered service." What a joke.

Used to be a heck of a lot better. I think they've just gotten too big for their own good.

I think Im the only one here who actually really likes what they got from GFS.

Hey, if you get a tele control plate that is not blistered, great... Or a black one that isn't tarnished, great... Or the correct colored trem bar, great... Or telecaster top had switch tips that aren't made of brittle plastic that explodes, great... Or USA switch tips that actually fit USA switches, great...

I have been happy with the pick guards and pick guard material, at least...

Oh, and I have tried at least 6 different GFS pickup types... HIAR says they are decent, and I say they are meh... Fortunately, I only bought one set of pickups from them before I learned my lesson, but a friend of mine bought a bunch, so I have done plenty of side by side testing...

Fuck cheap quality crap...

I saw it... Didn't heed the warning. Figured "It's only $40... it can't be THAT bad".

Apparently I was wrong.

"Super Lightweight Paulownia Wood" is code for "This guitar is made out of a mix of balsa wood and styrofoam".

Seriously, the FULLY PACKED box maybe weighs 2 and a half pounds..... I think if I took a sander to the body it would just evaporate into a cloud of dust.

couldn't you just cover it with stickers?

Sure, but why should you have to? Sure they're are lower cost and I would expect some sharp fret edges or not the nicest wood grain. Lower quality compnents ect. but that doesn't mean they can ship you a total piece of shit either. Inexpensive guitar don't have to be cheap. Look at some of the Squire stuff low cost and great quality for the price. It appears that no one is even inspecting the products before shipping, and that is a receipe for losing customer.

For 40 bucks, I'd probably just refin the body.

As far is their pickups, I liked the Tele pups I had but disliked the HB sized P90s (dream something or other) that my buddy installed and quickly replaced after a few days.

I've bought some tuners, knobs, pickguards and various hardware from them. Everything was at the very least worth the price paid.

Any problems I've had with orders have been resolved but not necessarily with a smile if you know what I mean.

Maybe it's just me, but for $40 I'd expect an unplayable piece of shit. Sounds like you came out ahead in that deal.

It was just for the body, so, yes, it would be unplayable... And, piece of shit is to be expected, just as with SX...

It is a cash cow mail order company, not a guitar company... You get what you get...

I think they sell cheap imported guitar parts and instruments at a correspondingly cheap price.

This can attract a lot of misplaced expectations and definitely attracts a lot of bottom feeders and noobs (hence some of the OMG GFS pickups are better than real PAFs!!). I can't imagine what it's like dealing with some of their customer base on a regular basis.

It's just funny how they had this reputation for great customer service and how everyone loves them on HCEG but I never see anyone get anything but broken crap from them.
