Oh, I've had the Line 6 UX2 interface for a couple years, now, and am happy enough with it... So, I've had a chance to get to know the POD Farm stuff... However, the new unit is a whole different animal, and I really want to try one out... I have liked the demos I've heard so far... I like the idea that the HD500 can act as a complete pedal board for live playing, and is also a complete interface for the computer...

I used pretty much this same analogy in a class last night for a different topic :embarrassed:

I'm also on the Barber Bandwagon with my Direct Drive SS...plus David Barber is a really nice guy who stands by his products.

that depends. are you gonna carry that thing to all my gigs and rehearsals? no? i didn't think so.

sometimes the multi-tool fits the bill.

If I'm working on my car, I'm going to carry the full tool box to the garage rather than use the multi-tool. If I'm stranded on the side of the road and the multi-tool is what I've got, I'll be damned thankful to have it.

Good analogy.

Of course I have both.....pedals and a full blown MFX modeling board. Both have their uses. I use the pedals and amp 90% of the time though.

now what if you're just getting into tools and just need something to mess around with? the multi-tool might be the right thing. especially because of the portability factor. also, those tools are getting better all the time. they might surprise you.
 
Of course another analogy would be:

If you just need a screwdriver, you could use a multi-tool, but using a screwdriver will likely get the job done faster and easier.

So, if you only need overdrive and EQ, why have a million and one okay effects when you can just get a nice OD and a nice EQ pedal?


But I also agree that if you don't really know what kind of effects you want, the multi-pedal is a great way to get a bunch of them for a lot less than a bunch of pedals.

When I used my multi-effects processor (Digitech GSP 21 Legend), I only ever used the distortion, EQ, delay and reverb. Maybe some chorus on occassion.

I now have individual pedals for distortion, EQ, delay, and reverb and I'm much happier...not only with the tone, but the ease of tweakability.

i don't disagree. but the opportunity to try out a bunch of stuff in one housing and have all that tweakability is what got both of us to the stage we're at now. if i had it to do over, i wouldn't have spent $500 on my RP-10 and would have bought something smaller. but i get where he's coming from.
