Bands that nobody talks about anymore

Dire Straits. For a band that were one of the biggest in the world at one point, they've had remarkably little influence relative to that.
That said, Knopfler is still a very influential player and has put out some really solid material on his own. The first four albums are all excellent, the first one is still one of my all time favorites.

As far as any of these artists not being talked about, I’m not sure exactly what that means…talked about where and by who? In what context? On social media sites (FB, IG etc.) and various other forums like Steve Hoffman, almost all of these older artists get talked about. Dedicated pages and groups, even a lot of really obscure artists/bands. I actually find it pretty hard to find sites where there aren’t discussions about any particular artist nowadays.

pretty much every skate punk band from the 90s
I saw Lagwagon 2 years ago. NOFX always pops up when I’m listening to Spotify and are no their final tour. I think Fat Mike is just going to run the Punk Rock Museum from now on. I’ve never heard of Mucky Pup.

IDK about that...there's a slew of those band doing really good on tour these days so someone's obviously talking about them, even if it's just nostalgia at play.

Lagwagon is playing in my city next week.

Oh no doubt about it, Knopfler's a legend and the streak of albums up until and including Brothers in Arms is a hell of a run. The thing is though, I don't hear much of Dire Straits' influence in rock since then. You can listen to bands and say 'oh, I hear the influence of Zeppelin/Pixies/Talking Heads/Velvets etc.' but I don't detect much of Dire Straits, outside of something obvious like The Killer's covering 'Romeo and Juliet'.

Knopfler's a hard guy for a garage band to cop, so maybe that cus it off at the root? Guitar, I mean. You could cop the vocals. :)

i just remember these bands being really popular in Holland in the 90s, you would see people wearing shirts everywhere. Now, not so much.

One of my Dutch friends just told me he is going to see NOFX on the farewell tour

You can’t just name lists of random bands. Celtic Frost and ST have been in the news a lot. ST have been touring all summer around the world, CF’s Tom Fischer had been touring with his own Triumph of Death project playing Hellhammer songs, while a CF box set has been released not too long ago. Tom is still active otherwise with Triptykon

Triumph of Death is killing it worldwide.
