Artemis 1 Launch

Because if we are going to Mars, we need to build the ship in lunar orbit. Here's the thing that everyone seems to ignore about a Mars mission: once you are outside the Earth's magnetosphere, there is a high level of nasty high energy radiation. It's kind of like living inside a microwave oven. The only fix is to use inches of steel or feet of concrete for shielding. Now multiply that by the huge size of the ship required to hold food, oxygen, and other supplies for a two year mission to Mars and back.

Trying to get that much mass into orbit from Earth is practically impossible. If we make concrete from lunar rock, on the other hand, it is easy to boost into lunar orbit.

Need the Epstein Drive to make the trip reasonable  Two year mission is too long IMO. While I would love to see it and thought I would, I no longer think I will in my lifetime without some kind of breakthrough. The distances, time and radiation environment will prove to be too much of a barrier unless that happens (again IMO). I'd love to be wrong

I agree. Unless some sort of drive is discovered that can take us to Mars and back in weeks instead of years, we aren't going.

Radiation isn't just a problem in space. Mars has no rotating liquid metal core thus no magnetosphere to sheild from radiation. Protecting astronauts on the surface will be a huge problem. I've seen some ideas using huge electrostatic generators, but it looks to be impractical.

What's funny is my wife was walking in the door right when it took off (coming home from Vegas) and didn't notice the light change. She's oblivious. I was passed out in bed. She wouldn't notice a dump truck driving through a nitroglycerin plant. (Name the movie)

Christmas Vacation (too easy)

Any video feeds put up yet? I suppose there isn’t much to see at the moment but…

I've only seen 1 photo from space and one sorta short video so far. I wish they had a mission tracker graphic deal like the Webb Telescope had, but I haven't been able to find anything like that on the NASA site.

Science Fiction wants you to believe that there will be domed cities on the Moon and Mars but the reality would be underground cities...not so exciting unless you are

Agreed that long term bases would be underground, but you still need people on the surface while building the underground bases.
