Any Love for the 'Pointy' Guitars?

About 10 years ago I was looking for a two humbucker, mahogany, hard-tail guitar with good upper fret access (I usually played single coil Fender types or P90-ish semihollows with bigsbys). I almost bought an SG, but then I saw the BC Rich Mockingbird Archtop. Mahogany with a maple cap, 24 fret thru-neck, ebony board.

I ended up liking it so much I bought another exactly the same, so I have two identical Mockingbirds in different continents.

Sg is considered a pointy guitar? Been playing one for 20+ years, love it to death, not only for sound and playability.

I don't have anything against pointy guitars, but for myself I wouldn't want getting a fitting gig bag to be too much of a hassle.

Had a Jackson Dinky, t'was way cool.

I always liked the look of the Moderne. The only guy I've ever seen play one is Billy G., and even that was a replica.

unless Billy owns more than one of those I have seen him play that one (Just Got paid) live. I assume that is a Bolin build. There is a builder in Ontario that does the entire Gibson, old skool 'pointy' line in 'hog' & limba, even combinations of the two lumber species, and he uses the big 'G' on the head stock too. He cuts the 'G' from MOP blanks. His work is amazing; I would say right there with Bolin builds.
I have never played a Moderne but I sure would like to have one for my herd. Oh crap ....... $$$$ .......
Don't see how a Moderne could be any better than my all 'hog' Futura copy; my favorite of the three pointys I have but I would still like to have a Moderne. :heavymetal:

The light is putting a glare on the head stock, but yeah, there is a big G on it, so must be a Bolin. Probably the same one you saw him play. It's been several years since I took that pic, so I don't remember what song he was playing. He's got a slide on his finger, so it probably was Just Got Paid.

I'm not usually a fan of Mockingbirds, but that one is a beauty. You've posted it before, and I think I said the same thing then.

You may like this one-off/proto Gibson J-200 with the 'pointy' head stcok, played by Benny Joy & by Kent Westberry.
It has that crazy giant 'G' on the head stock. What a guitar!

Meh, it's more of a Kramer hockey stick than a poke your eye out Charvel, and I find the mustache bridge more off putting than the headstock. But yeah, that's unfortunate, especially for an acoustic.

One of my favorite cover tunes was done on a pointy guitar. Dr. Viossi playing to Dream Theaters 'Best Of Times'.
