Help! Amp recommendation?

I echo the "Fender" sound...being picky about the circuit type up front will save you a lot of aggravation later...

One possible solution would be to get something like a Deluxe Reverb Reissue or similar 6V6/6L6 amp and add an attenuated for home practice and rehearsal levels...my own choice in this range was a Traynor YCV40WR, which is closely related to the Fender HotRod Deluxe...I use the clean channel set pretty neutral and control everything with pedals...I have an SCXD for lower volume playing which negates the need for an attenuated but I wouldn't hesitate to use one with the Traynor if I needed it...

My previous amp was an Ibanez TubeScreamer TS15H head, which I paired with a 1x12 cabinet loaded with an Eminence RedWhite&Blues speaker...the amp has a 5w switch...set at 15 watts it was loud enough to keep up at Pragestock 2014...it is basically a Fender circuit with a TubeScreamer built in, but the TS is switchable so it's not in the amp circuit...it also has a Boost built in and has a massive amount of clean headroom which makes it a GREAT pedal platform...it also comes in a 30watt version, but for your needs 15 watts paired with a high efficiency speaker would be more than enough...

I don't think I ever would have considered an Ibanez amplifier, but the reviews sound pretty good, and I found some clips which sound pretty good as well. Interesting reco. Maybe I don't really want a combo...

OK, I asked for they gut shots, and he said he would send them to me this evening. Can you help me make sense of whatever I receive?

If the guy's story is true, and it was sent back to David for him to re-wire, it should look like the attached pic. Now this particular pic is of a later version Accomplice, but you want to note the clean nature of the work. Walk away if you see anything even a tiny bit off. David built my amp and it's immaculate.

These are not exactly ringing endorsements. Still, for the price...

We are talking about an amp you can snag for under 3 bills used. It isn't going to be a Deluxe Reverb or a Twin. It is great for the price. I had one for a while and liked it. I sold it when we were getting ready to buy our house and replaced it with a Super Champ XD, that I got with a gift card. It sounded a million times better than the Super Champ. Keep in mind, I only used the clean channel of the Super Champ. I tried the modeling channel with the effects and it wasn't for me. I was going to get another Tweaker when we bought the house, but I happened to find a Mesa F-50 for $500. Seemed like a no brainer to me. Keep in mind @Guitar Heel heard mine at Barn Storm, so his lack of enthusiasm for the amp is probably due to hearing me play through it for a weekend

Here's an example of an amp I would not buy.

I've seen much worse from the factory from Fender.

This is an example of terribleness. It was sold as an unmodified, all-original JCM800 2203. If that were true it would have the ST1 circuitboard in it, not this hot mess:

I still maintain that if you're looking for something that'll do Fender cleans, get nice and dirty, and be OK for jams or even small gigs, get a Boss Katana 50W.

I get the "el84 won't do fender cleans thing", I do. I've built amps and worked on several more, I understand the circuitry and at this point I could probably build a fender style amp from memory (not that great a feat actually).

Try the clean channel of a MESA Express 5:25 and get back to me. I think you'll find it very fendery, el84s and all.

gah

Still investigating the Allen amp guts. The seller sent me a pic with the back panel off, but nothing of the insides. When I walked again, he professed not to be very experienced at investigating Amps, but said he would try again. Now I'm just curious what's in there.

I think a solid state modeling amp is not really my jam.
It's really not a modeling amp. It's more of a solid state amp with built-in pedals.

I bought one and I like it (still gonna keep a couple of my tube amps though) but I realize they might not be for everyone. I have the 100w 1x12 version. The speaker is a bit on the bright side (still probably has to be broken in a bit) but I can get a decent amount of different tones thru it just stock, without going to the Boss Tonezone website and downloading a bunch of different 'pedals' for it (all free, but I haven't been able to make the website work on my computer, so I'm just using the stock sounds).

I hear the Katana takes outside pedals really well, but I've never been a pedal guy before, so I don't have my own pedalboard to be able to tell you yea or nay on that.

One of the only reasons I even think about the Katana is that Brian Mason (@atrox) has the head version. He also has a Friedman BE100. He still loves the Katana.
