Alex Skolnick leaves Heritage for ESP

He might have gotten a deal for free guitars and if he is featured in print ads he might get a bit of financial compensation for that along with just having his face in ads - which can boost awareness of him and Testament to a broader audience.
Heritage doesn't do print ads either. Most of the advertising is word of mouth. The Heritage Owners Club forum (that I'm a member of) does more marketing for Heritage than they do for themselves. Heritage understands this. As such, they have donated a guitar to our annual get together for the past six years that is raffled off.
It's a pretty sweet deal for Heritage. And us junkies are happy to extol the virtues of their guitars.

While I'm always interested in seeing what players I like are playing and when that changes, I've never really cared that they've changed. There are very few artist models that I actually prefer to some other regular (and therefore less expensive) models in their line. Most are only slight tweaks that don't justify the cost.

I'm guessing it's as simple as a few Skolnick approved specs (neck, frets, pups, etc.) It might be more vintage spec'd than a regular Eclipse. It's also an ESP, so it's a high end MIJ model probably every bit as good as anything Gibson or Heritage are making.

I agree. ESP makes some very nice instruments. That's especially true for their higher end instruments.

Oh, and I'm sure ESP is either providing free guitars and possibly cash.

Possibly a freebie and maybe a %age of sales from his model.

Also, he may be getting some backstage support from an ESP provided tech.

I like Alex, so I hope it's a good move for him.

Yeah, I'm an Alex fan as well. Folks like him, Dweezil, Jeff Beck, McLaughlin, etc. Musicians that don't stop learning and evolving and keep growing are always a special inspiration.

I'm just wondering what makes this Skolnick model different than any other ESP Eclipse, other than the fretboard inlay.

didn't he have a deal with Ibanez?

like, 400 years ago...

Ahaha, those were the days
