About to go all Office Space up in here

That's not it.

What they had in the movie never existed until the movie.
It was an older model that was painted by one of the prop makers with permission from Redline. He also put the logos on the side instead of the top.

I hate that I can't buy a correct model in red.

Yes, I'm a fan of the movie.

Didn't swingline actually make a reproduction red stapler from that movie though? I thought I saw that somewhere.

I think there was a prop replica made, yeah.
not 100% sure, but it seems to me that I did see one.

There's one that they flog as the one from the movie, but its not exactly the same.
The base near the hinge is different.

Interesting Red Stapler trivia from wikipedia:

A Swingline product was featured in the 1999 cult-classic film Office Space. One employee, Milton, is constantly mistreated by his boss and his favorite office product, a red Swingline stapler, taken away. At the time, Swingline had not manufactured red staplers for years (a prop department employee, named Ric Trzeciak, painted one using candy-apple red paint according to the film's commentary.) In 2002, Swingline released a "Limited Edition" series of red staplers as a result of customer interest. The stapler, the Swingline 747 Rio Red, is still available for sale.
