Help! 5F1 Amp Build

I was hoping to stop by Radioshack and pick up what I need. Can anybody break down what I components I actually need to make this?

You aren't going to find it at Radio Shack.

Buy a Weber kit, print the schematic and layout. Study them.

It's not hard, but it takes patience, and you don't want to try to piece one together for your first rodeo. A kit is the way to go.

For the cab, have your wood working friend help you.

Go here:

http://www.tedweber.com/media/kits/Weber-Kit-BOM.xls

It's an excel spreadsheet that lists all the components for every amp kit Weber makes.

And here are the schematic and layout from Weber's site.

When I built my Weber kit, I don't think I even downloaded the schematic. I only used the layout sheet.

Ok, so which side are the negative and positives on the caps supposed to go on? Or does it matter? I can tell on my caps which is which, I just can't tell on this schematic. I can't find anything online to help either since this is a slightly cartoon-ized schematic.

It looks like the negative lead of the caps point to the right on the schematic.

While I have an extensive background in electronics, I've never taken on an amp build, but did enjoy a few DIY pedal builds from BYOC (build your own clone).

I'd love to build an amp from a kit, but will first need a dedicated work space at home.

Go for it Tig!!!

I too have an extensive background from being an instructor, repair tech and student since HS. But I never built one until being here on MWGL when I built the Weber 5E7M. When you do commit to build one, take your time and get it right the first time.

Still need to finish my 5F1 and reverb - been busy.

When I did mine, I was really worried that I wasn't going to end up with a working amp. Before I ordered the kit, I read The Tube Amp Handbook or whatever it's called cover to cover, then I downloaded the schematic and the layout, and studied the two, going so far as to label each component on the layout from the schematic.

When it came time to actually build it, I just used the layout with my notes on it.

It's always nice to understand what each part does during the build. In addition to what you did I also spent a good amount of time over at AX84.com. I just wish I had more opportunity to use the knowledge I've stuffed into my head.

Good advice.

Also, this guys site and books are excellent: http://www.valvewizard.co.uk

The first chapter of his preamp book is on that site for free.
