Michael Schenker and Armored Saint in Albuquerque last night.

Armored Saint were such a cool surprise. Double guitar thing, very Iron Maiden. They didn't really lean on dumb metal tropes, they're just a great band and the singer is fantastic. Both guitarists are fabulous. I'd see them again in a heartbeat the next time they're in town.

Schenker is unbelievable. If we all generally agree that aging into your 70s brings a little motor or skill decline then I cannot imagine what a beast he must have been as a young man. He played all UFO stuff and a lot of that material is kinda Spinal Tappy in its dopey lyrics, etc. But fucking hell, he's a murderer.

This is cued up to the solo.

Michael has gotten better in my opinion since he quit drinking. That was quite a few years ago. I missed his show. I coach my kids soccer team on Thursday nights. Uli Roth is coming to town on a Thursday too at the end of the month. I suppose I could rush over there after practice. I usually go with my wife. She would have to watch junior.

I think John Bush is still with Armored Saint and he's an absolute beast of a metal singer. All power, dynamics, and accuracy...definitely not tropes.

I'm a big Anthrax fan and was skeptical of them replacing Joey with John back in the day, but then I heard the album and holy schnit did I love the tunes and his singing.

Michael's definitely still killing it on the guitar. I've never enjoyed UFO's or MSG's tunes, so I don't spend time listening to him, but his solos are rippingly melodic.

Exactly this. I give Armored Saint the edge for much better songs and a better singer.

Guitar-wise, their guys are incredible, but Michael was just *that* much better and more interesting. His fluidity and melodic sense is stunning, and it's the most natural thing in the world to him.

I'm realizing that I've become an Ethel Cain addict. I picked up two tickets for her Milwaukee show on April 24 during the presale yesterday. So if anyone here is interested in meeting in Milwaukee, I'll be happy to sell you a ticket for what I paid. The show almost instantly sold out. Prices for the balcony tickets in the area I got shot up to $750 by yesterday afternoon.

Bought tickets to Opeth in Feb.
Originally bought with my younger son in mind, but my mind isn’t quite as sharp as I later realized he would be back in college in February. I guess one of my friends will become an Opeth fan. Or not. I’ve only given the new release one pass-through.

Sorry, but the rules stipulate that you need to start the Your 2026 Concerts thread to share this information.

Might do a last-minute call on Foreigner and 54-40 in Kingston ON tomorrow.
I found the event looking for 54-40 playing nearby. Foreigner is a “bonus”?
Kingston isn’t exactly nearby, but it would be fun.

I saw Neko Case a couple weeks ago. She’s still very very good. My wife mentioned that she’s a bit like Joyce Carol Oates in that she’s been so consistently excellent at what she does for so long and just keeps doing it mostly effortlessly that it’s easy to kind of underrate her. Which I think is a fair enough comp.

She's playing here in three weeks and I've never seen her. I've been kicking the idea around for a while and you may have helped me make my decision.

I've got three shows on the calendar for the rest of the year:

Josh Johnson (stand-up)
Todd Rundgren
DhakaBrakha

You should. She’s really great. We’ve seen her a bunch of times—including the date when she cut her live album The Tigers Have Spoken. Some of her best shows were with the Sadies, but unfortunately Dallas Good died a few years ago. Her new band is good though and she’s doing a bunch of stuff off her new record.
