Question: So what brands and/or products do you buy at your local music store?

Almost everything Dunlop is making these days seems pretty good.

I picked up a Planet Waves cable a few months ago that kicks the shit out of everything else I've tried. I'm definitely buying more from them.

Semi-boutique pedals seem to be hot these days. It makes sense: they are cheap enough to be within reach of most players. I think a store carrying brands like Mojo Hand and Earthquaker would do well. Seems to be a somewhat trendy market, though -- yesterday's garage genius is today's corporate sellout.

You should get something with the store name that brand won't be an issue or you can throw in with big orders like a "Premier Music String Winder". If you include a pic of Jack the Dog they'll sell even better. :grin:
 
ernie ball strings, dunlop jazz III's, um.....um......um.....i guess that's it.

unless i need a cord or something......and then it's what ever i can get cheaply.

i mean, unless i'm buying a guitar, which hasn't happened since 2008 (but very well may happen in august), it would be another strat.

i would like to try the graphtech tusq picks, but no body has them.
 
Strings - D'Addario EJ16 for the steel string acoustics. Every two weeks - 1 guitar. I change strings on my acoustic steel string so often that any other fancy coated or uncoated strings are an unnecessary expense and D'Addario makes a good cheap .012 set. For the nylon string classicals GHS Set 2510 every 3-4 months - 2 guitars. I really like the GHS classical string set 2510. The wound strings are nickel and never tarnish. In this set the third is wound. In set 2500 the third isn't.

Picks - Planet Waves tortoise thumb picks, large. Maybe twice a year. They last 4-ever so its usually to replace what I lost. I was mail ordering Fred Kelly's Delrin medium (Orange) Speed and Slick pick thumb picks but recently switched to the Planet Waves polycarbonates for their weight.

Sheet music/scores - Depends on what my kids want to play but it's usually in Paul Simon's, Cat Stevens' and/or Gordon Lightfoot's catalog of songs. Sometimes it's other but always early 70's music.

Shubb - This is rare but I do occasionally lose a capo. I like the Shubb capos. I have their classical, steel string acoustic and steel string acoustic half-capo.

Bought an Ibanez IBZ10A acoustic amp from them. It's 10 watts with chorus (woooo) and a headphone jack. Very nice little practice amp and pretty cheap.

Also got some mic stands and a couple cords.

Nady MGT-16 wireless system. Hugely relieving of cord-itis to a guy who loves to stroll when he plays.

A looper pedal. Great Gizmos and Gigtools, this thing is fu-un. Layering has never been easier. It's volatile so if you're happy with the results best to let it loop and record it. I'd put a name on it here but I forgot it and my kid swiped it for some fiddle stuff he's doing.

I like the Tusq picks. Wish they made a 2.0.
Brands I buy. Dunlop picks and strings.
I like the planet waves capos.
Cables I not too religious about, planet waves, whirlwind, fender.
 
I'm pretty set in my ways on consumables...

Picks were Fender mediums, but now I'm using Clayton Customs green and yellow, same as Dunlop Tortex...

Strings are Ernie Ball regular Slinky 10-46 on the electrics...I'm in the middle of an experiment on the acoustic, I'm trying EB Earthwoods, D'addario...

I'm using Planet Waves classic cables...

Straps are Dunlop 38" nylons...

Slides are Dunlop heavy glass, my capo is shubb...

I've never found anything I like more than Snark tuners...

I think that covers it...
 
Oh yeah...Planet Waves makes a really nice string winder with a string cutter built in...I can throw that and a set of strings in the gig bag (probably should stock a couple gig bags) and I'm ready to go...

I recently bought a box of D'Addario EXL140's for my electrics (10-52) and a dozen sets of EJ 16 Phosphor Bronze (12-53) for my Taylor. I also get my Tusq picks from the store, but I'm not out yet... still have 20 or 30.
