Officially Freaking the F Out

Well, the main problem is they all think they're doing their jobs. We have a disagreement over what those jobs happen to be.

Yeah, you have a BUNCH of representatives that were elected with the mandate of "stop obamacare." Their constituents were VERY vocal about why they were putting these people in office.

And of course Congress is still getting paid, even though that's the first thing that should get cut in this situation... douchecanoes.

The Constitution is pretty clear on the responsibilities of Congress.

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States;
...
To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

Okay, it's done, labs are shut down. I'm out at 11am. I'll be able to go to the end of the week using personal time. If this shutdown goes past the weekend, I'm on Leave without pay.

My local CList will see a flood of music gear.

And this I just don't get....you want to shut down the working people over your ideological battle...do it on your own dime not mine

Mojo for those out of work and $ due to this

Exactly. Do what's right for the country, not just what the low information, lunatic fringe voters in your gerrymandered district want.

Mojo.

Man, threads like this show that I miss out on a good chunk of the state of things by ignoring news. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Much mojo to all those affected.

Hooray, just got word that the NIH is now suggesting NOT to submit funding proposals for Friday's deadline. So, all science is pushed back to February, and another technician in my lab will probably lose their job.

NOT-OD-13-126 "Information for the NIH Extramural Grantee Community During the Lapse of Federal Government Funding"

SUBMISSION OF GRANT APPLICATIONS

For the duration of the funding lapse, applicants are strongly encouraged not to submit paper or electronic grant applications to NIH during the period of the lapse. Adjustments to application submission dates that occur during the funding lapse will be announced once operations resume.

I prayed about this when I woke up. The thing that bothers me the most is that many of us have to live paycheck to paycheck and we never seem to get ahead. The American dream has become a lease and those of us lucky to own a piece of it are on a second mortgage

Mojo MrsP.

In a situation like this, I think the first government employees to go without pay should be congress. Maybe if they lost their paychecks, they would come up with a solution faster so the hard working folks wouldn't have to sweat not getting a paycheck.

I don't think it will last too long. It's like a poker game where one guy has a straight flush and the other guy has a pair of 2s. The bluff has been offered and soon, the fold.

Seriously well said man.

voters in your gerrymandered district

A huge part of the problem. Combine that with the paramount importance of fundraising in modern campaigns and the huge fundraising advantage incumbents have over challengers and you have a recipe for entrenched legislative gridlock.

There should be a law... Whomever it is, that blocks the paychecks of govt emps ..... GONE immediately.
I don't care about O Care or whatever... If you stop a paycheck, you too no longer get one!

THAT would settle down this crap asap!!!!!!!!

Mojo to everyone affected, directly or indirectly (which eventually will be all of us).

I can't imagine the logic behind thinking this is a good idea. I've heard the explanations of course, but they make no sense.

job mojo. really sorry. i hate being under that kind of stress, that's when i start getting really squirrelly.

And with that, the debate over what "general welfare" means, and how it should be implemented.
