Officially Freaking the F Out

Mojo to you guys, hope it resolves sensibly soon and everyone gets paid what they're due.

I work for state gubmint but we're heavily funded by the feds, we received an email from the Secretary of our department saying not to panic, it'll still be business as usual. That said I know people here are panicking a bit. The stock market is taking a huge shit today, scary to see how heavily tied in the gubmint is to that.

I am getting ready to tell half my staff that they are unfunded and have to go home. :(

It's one thing to read that government is shutting down, but it's another thing to hear the all too real stories from the people directly impacted. Mojo & prayers Mrs. P.

Mojo to all effected. I have several good friend out here who are off playing golf today. Hopefully this ends very VERY soon. Like today.

Sucks indeed.

My contract team is already funded, but we can't do any actual work lest we give the impression that the government is still working during the furlough.

Until I looked it up this morning, I didn't realize that there have been 18 shutdowns since 1976.

Mojo to everyone impacted by these shenanigans

Sucks. Mrs. S. is on unpaid leave starting at noon. We already got sequestered out of one paycheck this summer.

Sequestration has been a giant pain in the ass for me as well. The federal research agencies don't have budgets, so they can't fund new science projects at universities and research institutes. This means I have to lay off good employees to ensure I can keep the research going on current budgets. There are a ton of articles out there about the American 'brain drain' as scientists move their labs overseas to countries with a better funding outlook. I've seen three labs close completely, and four leave for Europe this year. They are not coming back, and the ideas and discoveries they make will not impact the economy here. Really sad times.

I would love to see a constitutional amendment where defaults that close the federal government result in an electoral 'misdeal' and everyone elected to Congress gets fired. We could call it the 'Do your fucking job, assholes' amendment.

Well, the main problem is they all think they're doing their jobs. We have a disagreement over what those jobs happen to be.
