Hot or Not? Gibson Custom Shop Lonnie Mack Flying V

Gibson Lonnie Mack Signature Flying V & other Vs

Lonnie Mack V_01.jpgSo now it's Spring, 2012 and I just got on this board. How did you, "dodgechargerfan" ascertain that your "LM Flying V" is "number 39" of the 188 made? I own one myself and nowhere is there any indication of what number it is in this short-lived custom shop series! From the serial on the back of the peghead, I can accurately date it and tell which number Gibson guitar it was coming off the assembly line that day in February 1994. Also, I couldn't DISAGREE MORE with the "Modern Saint" post above: My "LM Flying V" is fat, rich, ringing with harmonics and sustain plus the Bigsby holds perfect tune even with an aggressive workout! Anyway onto the "Bigsby debate." While I agree that Bigsbys don't have the "travel range" of most other popular vibratos, remember that these Gibson USA instruments were produced with the goal to replicate as exactly as possible, the personal highly modified Flying V belonging to Lonnie Mack himself. That said and not wanting to destroy the collector's value of mine (approx $5000.00 in early 2012), I recently purchased on eBay a new Epiphone "1958 Korina Flying V Reissue" in Alpine White (made in China, but surprisingly made VERY WELL!) with Epiphone Flying V form-fit hard case for just under $470.00 total shipped! I can't stand "hard tail" guitars, so with this Epi V, I am adding a "Stetsbar" gold vibrato while keeping the classic look of the "upside-down gold strings-thru guide plate" and replacing the original pickups with Seymour Duncan "Pearly Gates" humbuckers, double-white with gold poles. I don't mind "buggering-up" this Epi V because at 63 years of age now, I won't ever live long enough to see this guitar become a "high-priced collector's item" like my "LM Flying V!" I also just purchased a new Fernandes "Vortex Elite Flying V Sustainer" in Snow White with hard case at a very friendly LOW-price! Now I've got the whole "Flying V Spectrum" covered from classic '60's rock 'n blues to the latest thrash-metal grind-core! LOL!

Either you're the T1000 of the spam-bot world or you suck at reading comprehension. Dodgecharger doesn't own it, he was sharing it from another site. As for the rest of your post, you signed up just for that? I'd say you're probably a TGPer, except you copped to owning an Epiphone and a Fernandes, so they'd probably flog you.

"Kerouac": You are correct about the "re-post" from dodgechargerfan" and I apologize for not catching that right off-the-top! However, NO apologies will be forthcoming to the ignorant Canuck who originally posted this false Gibson numbering info nor to you who seems to relish covert cyber-attacks to impugn other forum posters such as moi! A personal note now if you will: I do NOT and have never "copped to owning" anything as if you "Kerouac" can pass judgement on those who buy Epiphone or Fernandes guitars! I've been around along time and have bought and sold many instruments. Because I always purchase wisely, I have NEVER lost money in selling any guitar I've ever owned...even the "low ranked" brands! Therefore, I'm not the least bit embarrassed by any brand guitar I procure!

"Coda": Well, blame Lonnie Mack & installer Glen Hughes for the choice of that B7! I wish he had chose a B5 because it would have eliminated the need for that huge metal cross-brace spanning the "wings" and he also could have kept the classic "upside-down V string-guide plate" in place. The "Bigsby effect" of the B5 would have been just the same as with the B7 but using a lot less body area! Just because Lonnie is an incredibly great guitarist, doesn't mean he can concoct guitar mods with the best methods!

Again, you have issues with reading comprehension. But stick around if you have something to contribute.

Ha. DanSchear, excessive use of quotation marks is a classic sign of self-importance. And, possibly, impotence. I suggest you take steps to solve both problems. Keep us posted about your progress.
