Food Jam: Diners, Drive ins and Dives

Modern Saint

Starve your Fear, Feed your Dream!
How many of you follow Guy Fieri's - Diner's, Dive's and Drive In's on the Food Network?

My wife started watching that a few years back and caught an episode of it around that time as well. Well we started to seek out the triple D's in LA and so far have only gone a couple of the them. When we headed to Oregon for vacation a few years back, we went one of the Triple D's recommendations and it was pretty damned good. The place was called the "Squeeze Inn" in Sacramento which it was exactly. Great burger though and a real treat as traveled north.

If you are looking for the best burger in town, smothered in a bubbling cheese "Skirt", then you have come to the right place. Our famous "Squeeze With Cheese" burger is a 1/3 pound of beef with almost as much cheese, all on a fresh bun, and all the fixings. Of course all of the items on our menu are just as delicious as "The Squeeze" and we invite you to try them all. Our staff are very friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. You will not want to leave, The Squeeze Inn is habit forming.

My wife consults that show (or the website) before we travel anywhere.

We've been to several places in Chicago and the south that were featured in the show.... most have been really good (but often in scary neighborhoods that you would never go to without a pre-planned destination.

Modern Saint -- if I'd known you were so into checking out the DD&D spots I would have suggested this one when you were in town:

It's kind of a long drive from Houston, but it's just down the road from my house. I don't go there very often, except to support the bands if it's someone I know. The whole Kemah scene is way too touristy and crowded for me. In any case, I can hear the music from my front porch most nights.

That show is a danger to my health. Luckily most of where he goes is not local to us :embarrassed:

The is a breakfast joint in San Pedro right off of the 110 Fwy. My wife, Robben and I went. It was really, really good!!! :thu:

There is another one in Long Beach by the ports but we haven't gone to that on yet and one in downtown LA.

We kind of do that too when we road trek. They even feature a couple who have gone to 400 (uncertain of the exact number) of the locations that he has reviewed. It's like playing "Where's Waldo" except with food.

Maybe next time. Our sister company is located in Houston where I went so there maybe future visits to come. For the short time period I was there, it would have been tough.

I've been to a couple places they have had on the show when I travel and they've been good.

^ lets you find places featured by state

We went to Pine State Biscuits in Portland after seeing it on the show....highly recommended. The place they hit down the road from me is decent but quirky, making it the kinda place you send people who aren't from the area but not necessarily my first choice for myself all the time.

That is killer k4! Looking at the LA area I have been to one of the locations before the show ever aired and even one of the places in my home state of Hawaii - Cool!!!

There are three or four spots in the Denver area they have been, but I have not eaten at any of them - yet. Supposedly they are heading back this way in the next year or so....

I hated him when I first started watching but he kind of grows on you. He knows his stuff, but he's not condescending to the cooks he interviews.

I thought exactly the same thing, but I'll have customers with me. We have to find things that they want to do - but everyone has to eat...

Damn customers

You can tell when he actually really enjoys the food or if he's being nice, too.

Figured I'd find my favorite diner on there:

O'Rourke's Diner

If any of y'all are ever in Middletown, CT, eat here, you will not be sorry. Brian is an artist. He's like the fucking Jimi Hendrix of cooking.

Me too.

I like the show but I dont travel enough to really consult it for recommendations. I did go to a conference in Salt Lake last year and ate at two placed they had been. One was a burger place and it was good but maybe not amazing. The other was a Mexican Restaurant that freakin rocked.

Whats the breakfast place in Pedro? We would make a the trek for something like that.

I think the place you're talking about in LB is Schooner or Later, right? It is pretty good but really crowded on a Sunday morning.
