It always amazes me that people can live that long and not grow out of their Ayn Rand phase. I was into Rand for about six months when I was in college before I realized that the whole thing is just sexed-up pulp sci-fi written by a person who was incredibly horny for her platonic intellectual übermensch who wouldn’t have fucked a crazy weirdo like her if he actually existed.

It's a play off a lyric from the Rush song Freewill. In high school, my English teacher had a very similar quote posted on her wall. The author wasn't Neil Peart, who wrote the Rush hit.

Based on interviews, Peart publicly distanced himself from strict Objectivism. He said several times that he had evolved politically and philosophically and no longer fully embraced Rand’s worldview. Yet, subtle examples of her influence continued to show up in Neil’s later lyrics.
