why is this thread so long?

ahhahah.

I think we're alright here :)

Hey Josh/Waldo/other dog owners. Any of you have any experience with serious separation anxiety from your dog?

When we first got Jack we discovered that he could jump 5-6 foot block walls in our back yard, so we didn't leave him in the back when we left. He would "misbehave" when we left him at home alone during the day. Now I take him to my inlaws shop and he runs around all day with their dogs...if we have to leave him for a bit he's pretty well behaved now...

wtf. dude. are you whacking off to a guitar forum?

ick.

Guitar porn.

lol.

Yeah...hill-billy designer breeds.
Sophie was born April 16th. Pretty cool.

I would expect they'll iron out the major problems with finding your way around the threads and to the unread posts. But just try making heads or tails out of the gear reviews, which were all thrown in one big pile along with blank spots for products MF sells and haven't been reviewed.

I don't know if I have as much faith as you Wyatt. They've been "working out the kinks" for about a year now and it's only made things worse.

Dean, we didn't have that big of an issue with Duke and separation anxiety. He used to make those whining/crying noises when we left (and still does occasionally when we've ben out a lot) but he was never destructive or anything. Mostly it just made us feel bad about going.

What's your pup doing? Did you guys decide on a name yet, by the way?

Well, we really haven't been able to leave him much. So far, no destructive behavior. But he screams bloody murder if he can't see us (even being in another room, if he can't immediately come to it, say, because the door's closed).
It's loud as hell (and I have neighbors) and he doesn't stop. And I mean not for a second. Tried leaving him in the backyard a couple of times while me and Miss Puck go out front, and he cried and howled for a solid 20 minutes. We thought he'd tire himself out, but no.

Been trying to "desensitize him" to our leaving, by taking baby steps, like leave him in a room, go in the other room for 5 minutes, come back. No good. I'm hoping he grows out of this phase or something, cause I don't know how we can function with a dog that can't be left alone.

His name's Reggie by the way.

this is Pepper...

...if we're gonna be friends, you need to know her...she was a rescue...she came out from under the hood of a Ford Windstar with a broken tail and rope burns around her neck...

Does anyone use an internet based timer? I need to time my individual tasks at work. I'm trying to gauge how much time I spend on the phone, working on insurance applications, doing service, etc?

Anyone use one?

Another Harmony Central refugee...my first post here! :cheese: Yippee! I am trying to keep an open mind, but damn.

I bet he'll grow out of it. Duke never howled but he definitely made these little pathetic crying noises. We did the same thing (leave for a bit and see how it goes). He will get the hang of it after a little while. Just remember how incredibly young he is - we found it easy to forget that because puppies seem so much more independnet than kids, but he's only a few months old. He'll get hte hang of it!

Man, that's awful. People who do that do animals should have the same thing done to them. Good on you for rescuing her though! I bet Duke would love to play with her (he loves cats but doesn't understand that they don't like him).

pepper would probably like duke...if he was on the other side of the fence barking...

Well, Reggie is about 5 months old, we figure. So he ain't a baby. But yeah. I'm hoping he'll just grow out of it.

Oh come on man, 5 months old is a baby! Even if you go by that whole 1 year for a dog = 7 years for a human, he's the equivalent of about 3. He'll get over it as he grows. I'd guess that you see a big change at around 7-8 months as he matures.

I meant he's not an 8 week old pup that just came home last week. Most ppl who get new pups get them around 8 weeks old, and are usually able to leave them at home for at least a couple of hours after a couple of weeks, no?
Do you ppl stay at home 24/7 with your dogs for the first 8 months of their lives?

This is my first dog as an adult...I would think that if Jack weren't 60lbs and still a bit of a puppy it would have been easier.
