Salted peanuts in a bottle of Coca Cola?

I just heard about it from a redneck friend. I haven't tried it yet.
It doesn't sound too good.

A buddy from Alabama told me about it a good while back, but I haven't got around to trying it yet. I'd just finished eating some peanuts and drinking a Coke Zero when I remembered about it.

Maybe I'll try it next time.

This guy is from Missouri.
I think he said his dad drinks coke with peanuts.
I am living in The South right now.
I'm gonna ask if it's a normal thing down here

No but I don’t think it was the time that he would have been able for me haha is that the way I wanna

I’ve tried it after reading about it in a memoir about 20 years ago. Not something that I’d recommend as being worthwhile.

From what I’ve read, it really was a rural farmland kinda thing, and that people started doing it so that they could continently snack and drink while driving. Then kids started imitating their parents. And next thing you know...

My buddy told me it was from people working manual jobs who maybe didn't have time or facilities to wash their hands, so they dumped their peanuts in the Coke rather than eat them with fingers covered in axle grease, or cowshit, or whatever.

I've always heard it as RC Cola and spanish reds with the skin on. I knew people from Indiana down to Alabama and Florida who do it/did it. Pair it with a moon pie and hell yes it's good.
And yes, all of them grew up on, worked on, or owned a farm.

Makes sense.

It was confirmed by 4 Southerners last night.
It is a thing mostly done by old people. Or as they put it "broke-ass old people".

"broke-ass old people", I love it.

I am definitely going to try it next time I buy some peanuts!

Great snack. Been doing it since forever. Picked up the trick as a kid hanging around the general store potbellied stove with my Dad and the old guys in overalls on Saturday morning. Not something I do every time, esp with a larger Coke, cause with a big bottle you tend to run outta peanuts about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through and you're left with kinda nasty salty soda. It works with other nuts, Ive tried cashews, but not as good. Dr Pepper in the small bottle is OK too if the Dr is your thing.
The thing about dirty hands and farm labor makes sense.
Also it leaves one hand free to steer the tractor.
