Overhyped artists

Helmet. Not that they were bad either, but if anyone besides me remembers the hype going into that release.

Then fizzzlllle.

I noticed long ago that the media will over-hype an artist, treat them like the Second Coming, then begin to tear them down.

They build them up and then knock them down? Huge if true!

But a separate problem with rock acts like G van Fleet is that they can’t sustainably be where it’s at, when they’re are so extremely painstakingly where it once upon a time was and very obviously isn’t anymore

Pete Seeger.

Not even as talented as his step-mom, would have been forgotten entirely if not for the massive amount of money spent by the US government publicizing him.

Mia Wallace: there are only two kinds of people in the world, Beatles people and Elvis people. Now Beatles people can like Elvis and Elvis people can like the Beatles, but nobody likes them both equally. Somewhere you have to make a choice. And that choice, tells you who you are.

Elvis person here. :)

cut dialogue from pulp fiction?

Tarantino also had the Beatles vs Stones argument which was cut from reservoir dogs

Did I miss something in the title of the thread that said only mention bands over 30 years old. Greta was the only recent thing mentioned (that is if you count Tool because they just released a new album). I feel like I’m in a time capsule thread that never stops.

Here’s my overrated pick:

Jelly Roll Morton and his Red Hot Peppers.

bunch of uppity high yellow quadroons

I actually meant any recent band, but I suppose there’s too many old fogies around here who don’t listen to new music

I don't really remember a ton of hype around Meantime other than Page Hamilton's background was an often mentioned component; jazz/avant-garde guitarist makes an alt-metal album

Look it’s just that:

I been to the edge
And there I stood and looked down
You know I lost a lot of friends there baby
I got no time to mess around

You are really selling it holmes. Are you playing air guitar while you sing that? At least you picked a song from their best album.

No that’s my air singer and not air guitar song. So I’m wearing spandex right now.

I was singling out Eddie. Lots of people who dont play guitar think he's the best ever. You never hear virtuoso guitarists name Eddie as one of the greats.
