Totally disagree.

Music, movies, art, photography, film etc. Don't always have to be arty, intellectual or thought provoking. Sometimes it can just be fun.

I used to play in a band full of hipsters and it was pathetic to see them bleat on about Sufjan Stevens and Nick Cave and then pretend they ironicslly liked *insert whatever popular artist / song* when they plain just liked the song.

Anyways back to the thread:

Big Country is the best ever Scottish pop / rock band.

I love it. Name the STP song and the song by another grunge band that it's copying either musically, thematically, or specific chords progressions or melody lines. You should have several examples as you stated they had no original ideas. Make it good.
