Any yes, it is extremely cool. There was a section in the vid where they discussed acoustic simulation . Just prior to that was a quick shot of a 20Hz (sub audible) horn. Those things would be the envy of any bass player. I was inside the outer cement wall (It's a room inside a room inside a room) during a test, and though I was still in the safe zone I was starting to go numb. The 1/2" steel plate bulkhead I was monitoring was vibrating 3-4" in every direction.

A long time ago someone was trapped in the inner chamber when they turned it on. Though he hit the emergency button, by the time they got gas flow stopped he was dead. It esentially turned his insides into jelly.:eek:

What the hell are you talking about? Do you have any kids in school? I do, they don't discuss anything about Jesus, let alone "dino-wrangling".

This seems like an unprovoked attack on some people's religious beliefs, and quite frankly has nothing to do with the discussion. The decline in academics in our country can be blamed on a lot of different culprits.

Christians that happen to have different beliefs then you is hardly the cause of our failures in mathematics or science.

To be sure, I was more than a little glib with how I phrased it, but there have been lawsuits in recent memory concerning mandated teaching of so-called "creation science."

And yes, I have a daughter in pre-school. I have no problem with different belief systems. I DO have problems with mandating that those belief systems enter into the science classroom.

But you're right, there are worse culprits to focus on. My favorite is the culture of self-esteem where we teach children that they are wonderful, perfect little snowflakes even if they suck mightily at school. We don't reward achievement anymore. Everybody gets a trophy.

Rocket motor test stands are so cool. I worked on one at Lockheed Santa Cruz for a while. The whole tower was made to be easily reassembeled after the explosion.:lol: It was an R&D stand, so the motors were small 'proof of concept' systems. Everyone would evacuate to the top of the hill, then they would turn on the sprinklers and light it off. I never got to see one blow, but heard the stories.

I don't understand why people (and i honestly mean no offense to anyone here. I don't know any of you guys) take that stuff so personally. The dinosaur comment was clearly said in a semi-humorous tone. There was no specific insult to anyone's religious beliefs that I could detect.
I read it more as a "instead of focusing on educating our kids, we waste ungodly amounts of money on lame bickering, political correctness, and all sorts of other crap."
 
On a related note.... did you see that a group of scientists discovered that some kinds of dinosaurs had feathers long before birds did (or they became birds, whatever your take on this is) and that the feathers themselves were a reddish-orange color.

Yes and no..... that news report is a couple years old.... there was an update about it on NPR the other day... but I didn't hear the whole thing to hear what was the most recent breakthrough though.

I think it was confirmation that the fossils date back tens of millions of years older than what they originally thought... placing the feathers long before the earliest bird fossils.
