not that i ever had a great deal of respect for bono.....what i did have i lost when he sent his jet back to the usa to fetch his HAT, that he forgot, all while ranting about the environment.

If youre going to be mad at least get the story straight. He forgot a hat and then bought the hat a first class ticket on a plane for it to be sent to him at a charity concert he was performing at. The hat was flown on a plane from England to Italy.

Oddly enough, on Wednesday U2 will be playing about a half-mile (as the crow flies) from my house. If I want to hear the show, all I need do is open my front door...

As he's Irish I do believe that instead of fighting AIDS and global injustice he should just stick to fighting Ryan Air. Fucking airline rip you off left, right and centre. Bastards.

If one were to have a gun to their head and told to choose one or the other or die, I would agree with you.

In my judgement any intelligent, well-informed person would have voted for neither as we, as a country, were doomed to lose no matter who was voted in.

Since no one was holding a gun to my head, and I consider myself an intelligent well-informed person, ( as many others do themselves), I voted for neither. Many of us voters did the same thing.

The voters who voted one or the other were the ones who proved themselves to be lacking in voter intelligence or were very misinformed.

No one who cares for direction of the country would have voted for either.

I disagree with this and, as I said in that post, I feel that equivocating was disastrous.

As voters, we have to deal with reality. I can understand Howie taking that same stance (voting third-party) since he lives in a state that's overwhelmingly blue. But I'm also aware of the fact that lots of people in other states took that same position, and look where it got us.

I also believe that HRC would have been, at the very least, a very competent president and not, to borrow a phrase, "a disaster".

At any rate, if you've followed my posts in political discussions over the years, I've long been an advocate of instant runoff voting. Which would probably have nipped our current conversation in the bud.

I think New York was different in this election because, for better or worse (I say worse), Hillary was a 2 term Senator here. There was no way she was going to lose New York. I would like to say that she won with a solid 10% margin. But looking at the numbers, while she did indeed win with a 10% margin, that was down from a 20% margin Obama had won. She couldn't get non-loyal party voters to vote for her. People who make it their business to vote (like me) voted for a third party. People who thought the fix was in anyway stayed home. Play that out in battleground states, and here we are.

Hillary would have been a competent President. Not a great President, but a competent one. I also think this last budget that was passed would have been much more contentious. And Paul Ryan would have much more power. But it also wouldn't have brought about this wave of progressivism we're seeing. Progressives are as hopping mad as Regressives have been for the past 8 years (I refuse to call them "Conservatives" anymore. There's nothing conservative about them. They just have different lobbying groups). And because of that energy, you're going to see many more instances of the "protest of the protest" from the other night. Now it's up to establishment Democrats to run candidates who aren't soulless like they are. Unfortunately, Perez and Wasserman-Schultz are doing everything they can to continue business as usual. And that's a losing formula.
 
To bring this thread back home, I think that the reason the OP now hates Bono is the same reason that the establishment Democrats can't win an election against a big orange monosyllabic teevee wrassling lizard in a toupee--they are nerds and they're nerds acting cool because they're standing atop the last crumbling relics of boomer culture victories long since enshrined as establishment status quo.

The politics of the Joshua Tree are now typical middle of the road positions. HRC's politics are the politics of kindergarten teachers and HR reps. These things are unexciting and anti-inspirational. Which is why they're easy to hate...even if they are effective. Add in decades of hypocrisy on the record, awkward mugging for the cameras, and unpleasant post-9/11 posturing and people like HRC and Bono become culturally toxic.

So now we have to live in a deleted scene from the director's cut of an unfinished Matrix spin-off.
 
The way I see it with him not having an opinion if he's not paying US taxes is that we as Americans have or opinions on foreign leaders all the time and voice them, like Castro, Noriega, Qadaffi, Hussien...etc...

Seems I've never paid Cuban, Lybian, Iraqi taxes either (Panamanian taxes I paid after we tossed Manni's ass in the pokey).

So, if he had an opinion I guess he can voice it, I'd hate to be a hypocrite like that. I'm sure he gives out more in sales tax than our president did in income tax over the last 10 years.
