They had a really good condition '68 Custom Twin Reverb at Atomic Music last weekend. I didn't try it out, but I did try to lift it. I think it weighs as much as I do....

Something like a Bandmaster with a separate 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion Creamback Neos for lightweight awesomeness? If I was that into a twin I'd probably have someone build me a 1x12 combo based on it.

I hate dragging heads and cabs around though. It gets old.Something like a Bandmaster with a separate 2x12 cab loaded with Celestion Creamback Neos for lightweight awesomeness?

If you go with a Bassman, depending on the year, you'll want to decrease the size of the negative feedback resistor so you get a cleaner sound. Some of them come with 47K or bigger and those amps get dirty quick. 820 should be good to keep it cleaner.I have a 72ish 50w Silverface Bassman and a Weber Cali 15".
Not as loud as a Twin of course but almost. It dosnt breakup till past 5, and that's darn loud.
Seems like that tech owes you an amp.
How do you totally screw up something as basic as a Twin Reverb?
That's why I suggested the Creamback Neos, though. A lot of guys are loving them for going lightweight.I hate dragging heads and cabs around though. It gets old.
Music Man started making them again. You can get a brand-new oneIf you can find a Music Man combo that's in really nice shape, that would be a great option. Solid state pre, so that doesn't break up unless you want it to (you don't). Tube power, so you still get some warmth and sponginess from that. They're all 50w or more, so plenty of headroom. I had an HD130 that sounded a bunch like a Twin, and probably had even more headroom. Great pedal platform. They're heavy, but not any heavier than any other high-powered amp.
Other than that? Mesa. DC5 combo, or a Dual Rec combo. You can find them used for reasonable money. Built like tanks, and you can get the Fender chime from them with enough knob twiddling.

Even just the bulk of the cab is a drag though. I like to load into a venue in as few trips as possible. That's why I suggested the Creamback Neos, though. A lot of guys are loving them for going lightweight.
