Is Taylor Swift the New Eddie Van Halen?

I think part of it is the prevalence of female musicians becoming more of a norm than a novelty.

Back in the day we had.... Joan Jett, Nancy Wilson, Chrissy Hind and..... um..... ummm.......... you see what I mean?

Now days there's Grace Potter, Lizzy Hale, Orianthi, Nita Strauss, Jennifer Batten, Tal Bachman, Donna Grantis, drummers like Meg White and Elaine Bradley of Neon Trees, and many others. I don't think there's nearly the kind of stigma as there was 10 or 20 years ago that guitars are only for guys. Girls who play a rock instrument are cool.

Tal Wilkenfeld, Ani, Dar, Sarah McLachlan, St. Vincent, Becca Stevens, Norah Jones, Larkin Poe, Lydia Loveless, Camila Meza, Esme Patterson, Holly Miranda, and so very many more hugely talented women that could be just as inspiring and likely are to a smaller group of folks.

I'm sure Ms. Swift has inspired some folks to play guitar, each person has a different inspiration. In my case, the Beatles, while prominent at that time, did not inspire me to get a guitar; Donovan did.

that was awful. the original isn't super awesome either, but I'd take it over this any day.

This performance is terrible faux naughty trash. A sonic barbed wire tattoo. The artistic equivalent of a trip to Guy Fieri's Uptown Chunks Diner and Boneless Wingporium. It's like if baimun's haircut was a concert film. I watched half of it and had to look down to see if my body sprouted a fake bowling shirt with flames on it.

Way back when, lots of boys decided to take up guitar because of Ace Frehley and Kiss. I don't see much of a difference between that and girls becoming inspired to learn to play guitar because of Taylor. Hopefully, these girls will stick with the instrument and learn there is more to it (and music, in general) than just "cowboy chords". Maybe they'll eventually join Internet guitar forums and complain about how much pop music sucks. :)

If that's what is happening then it's a good thing.
I just didn't think TS was still playing any guitar since she moved into the mainstream pop world. I thought that was more the country phase of her career.

Not going to read the article because fuck Taylor Swift. I bet that article was put together by her very effective PR team. Fuck that noise and all those guitar rags. And fuck Taylor Swift too for what she represents.
