The song samples two hit songs of the 1970s, Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London", and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" (Zevon himself had satirized/referenced Lynyrd Skynyrd's song in his similarly titled "Play It All Night Long", with the rather brutal line, "Play that dead band's song"). The idea for the mashup was suggested by Mike E. Clark.[1]

The First Kiss/Summer of 69 one irks me more than the mashup.

It's just so blatent. You can actually sing Summer of 69 over the Kid Rock song and only change a few timing things, and it matches up perfectly.
