Xotic XVD-1 Voltage Doubler

I went to a mom and pop music shop (Harbor Music in Redondo Beach, CA) that I like to visit from time to time and see what they have. Just to let you all know, this is where I bought all of my Xotic Pedals (BB, EP, SP, AC and RC) from as well as my older TC Chorus. Just love this shop as the service is great and they have cool things. I didn't find anything I was interested in and as I was about to leave I looked up on the wall and saw this.

I remember Mark posting about this once but unsure if he ever got one.

Anyway, I love how my EP sounded when it ran at 18V and decided to pick it up for just that use. I haven't hooked it up yet but soon will. I asked Scott (owner) does it work well with a One-Spot and he said yes. This came from after speaking with Xotic themselves.

He also said that it does not work well with the Volto :(. The shop also had a Volto (@Chad) and it was really tempting to get it but since it didn't work well with the XVD-1, I bailed on that. Scott has used his Volto on his small board and it has worked well for the past 7 months that he has owned one.

I tried it with my Rc Booster and didn't care for the sound.

So I finally attached the voltage doubler to my Xotic EP on the small board and I am in heaven again. I am using my small board with Sideways Down for the OC Fair this coming weekend. Last year I used my Country/Blues board and that currently is in overhaul. Anyway for this band I don't need a lot and the EP is on for 60% of the time while riding the volume knob.

As for the doubler, more headroom equals more control over my clean to breakup sound - oh last nights rehearsal it was so sweet to hear an EP with more headroom again. The downside is no Volto for me though so I am still locked to an outlet.

I will put an updated pic later today when I get home of the board updates.

The board in it's current stage. One more change will happen in the near future so stay tuned when that happens. In the meantime, this board will be used at the OC Fair gig on Saturday.
