Who is the greatest POWER POP band of all time ?

You learned! Adorable.

Seriously though, what sort of schooling/jobs have you had where you're not comfortable with assuming, debating, and vigorously defending an intellectual position?

I'm not one for calling folks "special snowflakes" but you kids might be up for the Getting Bent Out of Shape Super Easily Participation Trophy.

The kind of job you would get fired from if you called someone's opinion foolish on something as trivial as what constitutes a power pop band.

come on micwalt, get with the program. Peen is the be all end all when defining proper power pop bands. I heard he is being tapped for the Secretary of Power Pop Department.

I'm sorry that on page one you didn't even know what Power Pop was and now you're upset that some people who do know what it is have tried to discuss it somewhat seriously.

WAKE UP SHEEPLE!!! CAREER POWER POP FANS ARE RUINING OUR NUTRICUTICALS WITH VACCINES AND TAXES AND TECHNOCRACY!!! IT IS BETTER WHEN NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING!!! BUY MY DAUGHTER'S LINE OF MADE IN CHINA BUSINESSWEAR!!!

No, I am fine with an explanation. It is when you call someone foolish for disagreeing with your narrow view of something. Plus I am bored. It is a slow day at the Play Doh Fun Factory.

DEAR EVERYONE...I NEVER SAID THAT YOU COULD NOT LIKE THE KINKS OR WHATEVER OTHER BAND YOU LIKE.

I WAS MERELY ATTEMPTING TO HELP DEFINE TERMS WHEN IT CAME TO A GENRE THAT HAS FANS AMONGST A LOT OF NERDY PEOPLE WHO ARE INTO DEFINING TERMS.

Power Pop certainly covers a very broad range of bands and styles. I'm just surprised we are four pages into this thread and no one has mentioned Jellyfish!

They're one of my all-time favorite bands; however, I've never considered them power pop. There's way more Queen/Beach Boys/Carpenters/Bacharach in their stuff than Cheap Trick/The Knack.

@Peen Simmons. Love you, man.

For the rest of you, he's absolutely correct, at least regarding power pop. It was a retro thing harkening back to mid-British Invasion, when everyone was still on speed and hadn't found psychedelics yet. But you can't spawn a movement and be part of it at the same time. Which is why I posted the bands that I did. Because it drives him bonkers.

Enya.

Nothing says Power Pop like "Sail Away". She rocked it!

Then, after her I would have to say John Tesh. Aside from Enya, Tesh exuded Power and Pop!

I have consulted with my team of experts, and they all died because none of you goobers have mentioned Badfinger or the Raspberries yet.

I didn't think Badfinger would count seeing as they are as old as the Beatles and older than the Kinks. Or do they get in on a technicality because they changed their name to Badfinger in '69 so they are far enough away from the Kinks and Beatles?
