What’s the last time you learned a guitar part note-for-note?

A couple months ago when my Def Lep tribute band decided to learn one of their songs from 2015.

Learned the bass part for "Under Pressure" note for note a couple of weeks ago. I usually learn bass parts.

I like guitar parts and solos that sound very composed, so I'll regularly sit down and learn them note-for-note, because I feel I have to play them authentically to do the song justice. I'll give you a few examples: the solo in The Cars 'Just What I Needed', Marshall Crenshaw 'Crying Waiting Hoping', Blondie 'Maria', I like to get them right, I don't want to just wing them.

I learned part of a song off an instructional DVD about 6 months ago. I've been spending most of my learning time finding melodies by ear, then arranging them with chords either Travis- or Carter-style.

Last year at some point for the first time in decades, I went about learning a guitar solo. In particular, the first guitar solo in Rosanna...can't remember the compulsion, but it was sated.

Because you mentioned it I've just learned it. :thu:

I don't do that very often, but I recorded "Sleep Walk" a few weeks ago, so of course I had to learn the important bits.

I learned Thank You by Led Zeppelin to play at my sister's wedding. I got cocky and wanted to learn the solo so I did and was going to make my dad play the chords while I did the solo and then everyone got in a huge fight and I didn't go to the wedding and I never played that song again.
