Pfff England parked the bus way too early.

I'm getting real tired of coaches that think MOAR DEFENDERS and giving away the midfield completely is somehow going to end in anything other than disaster.

Same thing happens in NFL and NCAA football. The only thing a Prevent Defense prevents is winning.

Argentina was relentless those crucial late 20 minutes.
Yeah, but it was made easy by England. No pressure on the midfield any more whatsoever. The first Argentinian goal was the direct result of everyone hanging in a back line and no one putting any pressure on people in the 2nd line. They got warned several times, and still they ignored it.

Don't get me wrong, the comeback and energy Argentina showed was impressive, but fml it was made easy for them.

They were indeed. How many times have we seen when a team is down and it's getting late, they play with abandon and take shots instead of making another pass....and then it works. Kinda makes you wonder why they don't play the whole game that way.

Very hard to maintain that level of effort and exertion for a full game plus it leaves you open to counter attacks (if the defending team are willing to get the ball forward and have a go...)

I was gigging so didn't see but it sounds like England just sat back and let the Argies come at them as soon as they went ahead - you can get away with that against certain teams but not for 30+ minutes against a team of that caliber.
