Yeah - in terms of functionality and materials there's not much you can't have for $3K. From that point the extra is mostly plumage (extra bling, brand name, artist endorsement, rare woods).

For solid body electrics price doesn't make a big difference. If you play and listen to the guitars you buy then you might choose a Mexican or Japanese Telecaster over a custom shop model. Every guitar production line puts out good and not so good sounding guitars. The higher price tags have a bigger impact on the look of the woods and finish. Do active electronics really sound good at all? I personally don't think so.
