Taylor Swift is horrible.

I'm not going to be stupid enough to buy tickets for her anyway, even though now that she looks womanly she has passed into the realm of skinny girls that I find extremely sexy. A rare category for me.
 
I have 2 daughters, one is 13 and the other is 12. If there is one thing I have done is try to steer them into good music. Neither of them could even tell you the name of a Taylor Swift song. Their friends listen to all of that crap, but my kids won't have it. Now my youngest, is a dancer. She takes hip hop classes, so she gets exposed to some stuff I can't stand, but unless she is dancing, she doesn't listen to it.
 
Total side note - I really don't care about Taylor Swift or her business shennanigans - is Kesha's new song (Praying) on the airwaves int he US just now - I'm sure it's got plenty of digital fixing gone on but it's got a stunning vocal in it.
 
Thinking about it this morning, TS should have decamped to Pax Am and knocked out a quick back to basics record with Ryan Adams in the style of '80s Springsteen (like Adams or the War on Drugs guy) but with actual songs (unlike the War on Drugs). Bring along Jersey Boy Antonoff and do it up big and widescreen...kinda a goody two shoes Lana Del Rey.

Get some pop/Nashville/fake indie crossover cred and expand the #squad. Make an authenticity play. Then follow it up with a big pop smash.

Instead, it's cold beef and generic pop sonics.

While my son is now 40, we have had little agreement on music beyond Grateful Dead and The Cure. I never felt that I could judge his musical tastes; he was a different generation and his own person. I'm sure my opinion of Killswitch Engage is the same as my parent's opinion of the Beatles.
 
Audiences are going to get fleeced proportionally to audience demand, no matter what.

It's stupid to blame the talent. You're going to pay no matter what, the only question is one of whether the money goes to the streetwalker or whether the money goes to the pimp.

As though LeBron's money would automatically go to charity if the NBA had a minimum wage salary cap.

Anyway, it's not as though you can't enjoy world-class art without paying world-class prices. People pick their poison. We just happen to have a culture where tons of art forms - visual art, ballet, modern dance, theatre, opera, chamber music, orchestra - are readily dismissed as elitist art for the elite, even though they can all be experienced for much less than a UFC fight, a Beyoncé concert, a performance of Hamilton, etc.

I don't judge their tastes or force music on them. I was very conscious of what music they listened to when they were younger to try to give them a good understanding of music. I wanted to instill a love of good music not just follow along whatever the radio shoves down your ears and to not just follow along with what their friends are into.

My oldest has started down her own musical path and it cracks me up because she loves 80s music. She gets so surprised when I walk in her room as she blasting Duran Duran and burst out singing along with her.

The real crime is that stingy, selfish audiences have killed/fouled the ecosystem for new talent and music fandom. Which is why we only have superstars and nobodies.

Well, I grew up with what radio shoved down my ears, and I turned out alright. There was a lot of it I didn't like, so I explored more of what I did like. And please, don't tell me that music was better back then; I don't subscribe to that theory.
