So I drove to the steepest street in the U.S. to get pics (lots of bonus pics too)

So as I promised Brock, I took a little drive to the steepest street in the U.S. today to get some pics. It's definitely very steep :embarrassed:

The bottom, it's to the left

Looking back down. You dont have to worry about losing your brakes going down...you cant go back down it :embarrassed:

As I mentioned, all the streets in that area are really steep and mostly pretty narrow. I snapped some random ones over there to illustrate that:

I jad to take Grandview to get to another street I wanted pics of, Grandview Avenue is pretty much the coolest thing geographically that Pittsburgh has going for it, so of course I took some shots as I was driving.

This is W. Sycamore street, basically goes down Mount Washington down to the South Side. In high school, I cut one day, and some buddies piced me up in a van that they really shouldnt have had (it belonged to the school's stage manager :embarrassed: ) and that was losing its brakes. We drove around for a while, including this street.

The turns are way more than 90 degrees and it's pretty steep as well.

So there's my little Pittsburgh adventure for the day :embarrassed:

This looks amazing. :thu:

If I step back a minute, it is. I grew up a few blocks from there so I never much thought about it. I always used to shake my head at the tourists taking photos. Now that I am older, I get it. It's pretty cool. REALLY cool actually. But I will of course never see it the same as someone not from here.

I still appreciate how unique it is and if I have the chance I take a photo every time I drive that way.

How far are you from Canton Ave.? Is it similar 'round your place?

I'm about 8 miles away, I'd estimate. I live sort of at the top of a large hill but not as extreme as the Beechview/Brookline area, and my street is a relatively gentle slope. I would never want to live on such a steep hill.

This is from the Eden Park Overview. You can actually see way more than that as it overlooks a huge chunk of Northern Kentucky too.

Pittsburgh must be a cyclist's nigthmare.

It's certainly challenging, but there are large areas that are not nearly as bad. Just depends on the neighborhood. I could never bike to work but most of the area between the rivers, from downtown east, is flat for a good distance.
