Dogsinplastic
avuncular to no one
So, finally saw the show...7th row right side isle seats (row F seats 2 and 4).
Truly spectacular. One of the best performances I've ever seen. Non-stop singing/rapping and music...the band gets NO rest. Javier Munoz was excellent, as was Lexi Lawson...every bit as good a Phillipa Soo, if not better (and Soo is my favorite from the soundtrack). Peggy/Maria and Laurens/Phillip might as well have been the original cast members. Brian d'Arcy James was outstanding as King George.
The choreography blew my mind. The chorus singer/dancers...all the work they do is just amazing.
We got the hook up via one of the folks we know from church whose brother designed the lighting (and won the Tony for it) for the show. The woman that takes care of the lighting from show to show gave us a tour of the stage and backstage afterwards. Seeing the pit under the stage was really cool. Isolation box for the drummer, with the percussionist and bassist sharing the stage left side with the guitarist, strings (violin, cello, viola?), two keys, and one more (can't remember).
Javier was on stage showing some folks around, I overheard him telling them that he's only done the Saturday matinee about three times...we lucked out and landed on one of the those rare performances. The only substitution for us was Mulligan/Madison...normally it's J Quinton Johnson and we got Voltaire Wade-Greene and didn't miss a note, step, or beat, so we were all good.
We got the meet Mr. James:
(I'm the dork in the cargo shorts...as required by law).
Hang out on stage:
Here are some pit shots:
Bass, percussion, and door to drummer's iso room.
Percussion rig
Strings section
Guitar rig
Most of the cast and crew and musicians were out getting some dinner so they could do it all over again at 8pm that night. These folks are non-stop.
Again, just an awesome show. I know it's hard to get tickets to, but if you get a chance I can't recommend it enough.
