Old people forum is old. They should turn down the AC and have better lighting too

I'm both old (age 50) and have a 10-year-old kid to get to school on weekdays. I want a Blue Plate special music venue where the music starts at 5:30 p.m.

I've have been playing locally in bars and clubs on and off for 20 years. At the vast majority of our shows the last set (12:30is to 1:30ish) there were very few patrons. Maybe at hot downtown night spots there are big crowds then, but they don't have bands anyways (all DJs).

The clubs would be better served if the bands played until 11:embarrassed:0 - 12:embarrassed:0 at the latest. The last set more often than not ends up being band practice for the bar keeps and patrons too drunk to walk away otherwise.

When was the last time you saw a good band comprised of adults with regular day jobs?
that's all there is around here. almost every band is made up of 35-65 year old people with families and real jobs. NOBODY wants to be out at 2 am.
besides, here in the USA, anyone driving around after midnight is an automatic pull over/ticket, with the "no tolerance" cop policies. you're a giant neon cop bullseye after midnight.

as a fan of rock and/or roll: this is super lame, of course not.

as an old person: yes, please.

maybe out in the sticks this is true, but in a metropolitan area, no.

I'm good with doors opening at 7-7:30. Last encore 11:30-12:embarrassed:0 during the week. Weekends I'm open to whatever.
Fortunately most of the local venues do something similar, normally doors open @ 7:30.

Even with job and responsibilities, I'm rarely in bed before 12:30.

you don't live in my metro area. it's a shark tank. we have cops sitting across the street from the clubs, just waiting for someone to pull out of the parking lot.

You have to fuck up hard to get pulled over by the Chicago PD...if you're a white northsider.

I would simply like realistic posted start times. If the openers aren't going on until 11, just let me know. Don't tell me doors at 8, show at 9.

20-25 years ago our demographic was aged25-30 and staying out all night was part of the fun. Playing until 2 AM made sense.

This same demographic is now in their 50's and as has been stated playing 8-12 would make MUCH more sense

and this is especially true for those who are doing the playing. and particularly on fridays. up at 6 am....to work. home at 5:30, eat, change, get the gear in the car, 40 minute drive to gig, set up, check everything, etc. go on at 10 and play till 2.....tear it all back down, load it all back up into cars and band truck, pull out of the parking lot at almost 3 am, home a little after 3:30 am.....all after getting up at 6 am? fuck that.

edit: oh yea.....way over 50 years old and all of the above for $40? really fuck that.

8:embarrassed:0 to 11:embarrassed:0 would be good . A show ,then a late night bite. Home be 12:30.

"Clubs and bars have the band'ls start at 10 or later so they can open at 8 and sell more beer."

This. It's heavily dependent on the type of show (local artist vs. touring, etc.) but the economics of clubland are that you make all your money at that bar, not on gate. And if you say "move everything back," well, then people can't do the whole get home / shower / eat dinner / meet friends / drink / watch show.

You move away from that model by charging more for tickets, which then puts you into a different realm of artist, which then puts you in different venues, which ....
