RIP Rodriguez

avuncular to no one
Sixot Rodriguez, of Sugar Man fame, passed away yesterday.

Everyone should buy his albums and watch the Sugar Man documentary. Incredible talent.

He lived a life, passing at 81, but a lesser life than perhaps he should have/deserved, like so many artists that we never got to hear about.

That was a great film. I'm glad he belatedly got the recognition he deserved.

Agreed, while also feeling frustrated by the lack of earning anything from having had millions of fans around the world for so long and that music industry didn't support him as an artist. The former is a unique phenomenon and the latter is business as usual for the music industry, but still...

Man that was a great doc. Mrs jbj bought me the album that Christmas and I really dug it.

Fascinating guy who led a very interesting life.

Bummed to hear this. I only discovered the (fantastic) documentary by complete chance a few months ago. As @bsman said, it's nice he at least got recognition later on in his life.

Damn, I was hoping to see him at some point. He was here in Phoenix before the pandemic and I was out of town.
An incredible story.

I've been listening to his music for a while but just finally watched the documentary. What an amazing story. Seems like a life well lived.

I can't for the life of me remember where now but Mrs JBJ and I were out somewhere earlier in the week for food or drinks and one of his tunes was on.

The Sixto kid was a friend of mine. He’d drink whiskey, Pancho drank the wine.

Rodriquez music is on YouTube. I’ll have to check out the documentary.

R.I.P.
