Quitting smoking sucks.

Yeah, I know.....shouldn't have started, right?

Well, I'm down to the wire, as I have a bone marrow transplant scheduled at the end of July and will be in the hospital for a month.
I've been putting off quitting as 1.) That sucks and 2.) REALLY don't need any more stress in my life at the moment.

I have the patches and the lozenges, and truth be told, they do a pretty good job at keeping me from killing someone, but I really want a smoke.

I keep telling myself it'll save me money, save my lungs, keep me from smelling like an ashtray and prevent burns and stains on my fingers, clothes, etc...

I still want a fucking cigarette.

At one point, a few months ago, I joked with one of my doctors who told me to quit: "Why? What's it going to do? Kill me?"
She wasn't amused.

On a positive note, I haven't killed anyone yet....but the day is still young.
Nasty, nasty cigarettes. Wish I never would have started, but hey, I was 16 and cool. What do you know, right?

FUCK.

I feel ya man. I stoped for good back in March. I had to or it was gonna be permanent bronchitis. My lungs just finally gave up. It gets easier once you finally get weaned off the nicotine. I only want one 2-3 times a day now and it passes quickly.

Smoked for 13 years, from 13 to 23. I got sick was in bed for 3 days and couldn't smoke. After that the need wasn't strong and I just put them down. Last smoke was January 28, 1986, the day Challenger blew up. There are times i would still like to light up today but it's more the physical act and not need for the chemicals.

Fill your time from the act of smoking. I used gum and would go through a few packs of gum a day. Your fingers, the act of handling a cigarette is part of it. Gum and tinkering with something, busy work, side tracked my mind. I use to yoyo a lot, practicing tricks. A good one to start with would be a Duncan Freehand model. If that's not your thing look at fidget toys, juggling, slight of hand.

For me the hardest part was the physical act of smoking. I didn't have nicotine withdrawal but kept reaching to my pocket for the cigarette pack. I wanted to bring the cigarette to my mouth; I think I substituted eating for smoking as it was a similar action.I started as a teen and smoked until I hit forty. At this point I couldn't imagine smoking.

Hang in there, brother. You are stronger than you think. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

I started in my teens and stopped in my mid 30's. What helped me was using mints and chewing on those hard red coffee stirrers.

Mojo. Addiction isn’t easy.

I started in elementary school and quit during elementary school. Never went back. Lucky me.

Mojo, man! Definitely something about the ritual. I was able to quit fairly easily once the kids were born, but that old ethanol is a whole other problem for me. That being said, if I ever end up with something terminal, I'm buying a pack on the way home from the doctor's office.

Well, I've made it to day 3, which has been the hardest day so far. This morning sucked.

I'm definitely antsy, and probably a little irritable.

I keep saying to myself "You know, if I just had ONE cigarette, that would be OK, right?"
I don't have any, so in order to have one, I'd have to buy 20.....and then I'd be smoking again.
So......let's keep the faith, take a lozenge, try to chill, and DO NOT SMOKE.

Maybe not the best solution but I know a lot of folk have had success moving on to vapes...

I've literally smoked one packet of fags in my life 15+ years ago when I was on holiday in Dubai with work colleagues I didn't like - gave me a good excuse to sit out on the balcony away from them.

Even now, especially if Im stressed I get a notion to buy a pack which is crazy.

That’s exactly why they come in a pack of 20 - those bastards wanna make sure you keep going

I started in college and quit when I turned 30. I used Chantix and it worked really well for me. After about a decade of complete abstinence, I’ve started to enjoy an occasional cigar - but not too often. I don’t wanna go through quitting again.

Mojo

It was easier for me and the wife to quit than it really should have been at the time it worked for us. We planned it at a major change of life moment and made a deal with our 5 year old that if she ever caught us with a lot cigarette in our hand that she could call us whatever the hell she wanted in front of anyone at all for the rest of our lives.

I wasn't about to let her call me asshole in front of my late Grandma.

Vaping sucks. Fuck that robot dick. It gets you the nicotine which is great, but it doesn’t stink like cigarettes so you end up doing it all the fucking time… even more than cigarettes. With whatever microplastic tom foolery is going on with those, fuck them. At least cigarettes look cool.

As some one who smoked for a long time and switched to vaping, I’ve switched to the Zyn thing. It seems to be better. It’s probably still bad and I haven’t figured out how yet.

I have never smoked, but as someone who has often hung out with smokers I agree with this. Vaping looks stupid and is constant and always seems to require dealing with people charging this or that or trying to be sneaky about vaping indoors or spilling vape juice. It’s a dorky nuisance that doesn’t have the clear moment in time of the smoke break AND doesn’t at least look cool.

At least with Zyns you only look like a jerk when you’re cramming them in yr maw and when you spit them in the urinal—which is an asshole move that proves you don’t give a shit about the people who have to clean up.
