Please help me select a Caribbean style steel drum to purchase.

blah, blah, blah...
I haven't started looking yet. I have zero ideas so please tell me what to look for. Think backyard poolside jamming but professional sounding.

Would love to find one in the $1,000 range but would spend up to $3K if necessary to get one worth listening to. Any more than that I might reconsider.

If you know nothing about steel drums, typically you would have a set with a player or 2 playing the chords and then a lead pan playing the melody.

Traditionally, they are all different in terms of note placement because of how they were made. Not sure if there are companies mass producing now with more uniform layouts.

That’s about as much as I know about them other than my wife wants a lead pan.

Go authentic or go home!!!! :helper:

I do a lot of steel drum/calypso gigs. My suggestion is to get a single tenor or melody drum to start. They are very temperature-sensitive as far as tuning goes and can go out of tune being dropped/
