WTF: Ordered a guitar from Musiciansfriend. Now they claim it's "no longer available."

After much hemming and hawing on my part, I finally decided to buy a JV Modified HSS strat. The selling points: it was demo gear but still eligible for the 48 month free financing, it has push/pull coil split, and it was made in Japan, which is a bit different from much of my collection.

I order it last Wednesday, get the old "thank you for your order" email, and I'm thinking things look good. Then it sits in "processing" through the weekend, no tracking number, etc. So I call today and the gear advisor who I swear is working out of his home with a cartoon or kids in the background yakking away tells me the gear is no longer available. I told him, sure, because it was a demo and I ordered it, so it wouldn't be available any longer. No, he says it's just not available. I apparently ordered some ghost merchandise that their entire system let me order and wait on only to find out the shitbags didn't have it. And since it's discontinued, they don't have any more sitting around, but I'm welcome to buy a used one off their site. I tell him the used ones don't have free shipping or 48 month financing. Doesn't even offer to match that shit. I'm getting pissed all over again typing this.

Not surprising. Guitar Holdings has turned Musician’s Friend into an outlet for discounted gear and demo models from Guitar Center. They probably have bugs related to whatever database weirdness they’re doing to make it work.

When inventory gets low, sometimes what shows on the computers is not in the warehouse. It could also be lost, in the wrong spot in the warehouse.

I’m sorry for your loss. RIP Japanese JV Modified HSS Strat.

Maybe, if you search the internet, you can find a good deal on a mint used one.
There are good deals on them, but I want that damn 48 month interest free financing. Used they can be had for 800-900. I'm thinking about a player II modified, which has the push/pull coil split as well, but as I whined to the gear advisor on the phone yesterday, I already have a MIM strat and I wanted a MIJ strat with the coil split.

IE: There was ONE left... until butterfingers over here dropped it... and Wally ran over it with a fork lift.

Here are some options to consider….

1) Find out who offers the best interest rate on standard financing. Some credit card companies offer interest free for the first few months. Find a great deal on a used Japan JV Modified HSS strat. Calculate what you’ll pay over 48 months. Even with interest, it could end up cheaper than the new price if it starts at a low enough price.

2) Purchase a new Fender Player II Modified HSS Strat from Sweetwater, Guitar Center or Musicians Friend. Use the 48 month interest free deal to finance.

3) Purchase a new Fender Player II HSS Strat from Sweetwater, Guitar Center or Musicians Friend. Use the 48 month interest free deal to finance. Modify the guitar yourself.

4) Purchase a new Charvel Pro Mod DK24 HSS from Sweetwater, Guitar Center or Musicians Friend. Use the 48 month interest free deal to finance. Modify the guitar yourself.

Last time I didn't even get a tracking number...it just sat there saying "processing." According to UPS, the package is indeed moving through their brown transit network and at last check was in Atlanta. Hopefully Rick Beato won't steal it.

Rick probably won’t steal it. He prefers Fender guitars with counterfeit necks. ;-)
