& the Flaming Monkeys

I really want one for some reason. I don't even have a standard electric bass. I just love the sound of upright basses and this seems like it would be easy to integrate and record, no worries about mics, etc. And it'd be a lot easier to carry, store, and cheap too.

I'm not really going to get one...yet. But I sure am gassing. I'm getting a Roland TD-20 set next though, and that's going to take some major saving. After that.. maaaaybe.

I think something with frets would be a whole lot easier to get to using quickly, but i'm lazy. :embarrassed:

This is true, but a few of the things I like most about the upright bass sound is sliding into/out of notes, trem, and the such that can't be done on fretted instruments. Even that slightly off pitch note is sometimes desirable to me.

Also, I'd put tape on the neck where the frets should be. :embarrassed:

I dig the idea.

fret markers would help though

I saw an Ampeg (?) elec upright in a shop years back.
was very tempted, but it was a couple grand...more scratch than I had at the time.

The store I used to work in had an upright in stock for several months. They're actually pretty easy to get used to playing, even without frets, if you have a decent ear. If I ever end up in a home with lots of extra space, I'm definitely getting one, at least to record with.
