On Saturday morning I was checking Reverb for great deals on stuff I want. For months I’ve been looking for a score on a Gibson black beauty. One popped up! $3200 for a 2010 black Les Paul Custom. Only 9lbs 2oz which is very light for a custom. The seller probably could have sold this in 24 hours at $4200, I bought it after about 15 minutes of thinking about it while I was at the gym. I think the price was low because the original tuners were replaced with Grover locking tuners and not included. That was not a problem for me, I love locking tuners. I need to mess with it through amps more to decide if I like the pickups. The 490R is pretty dark and boomy on this guitar, even moreso than on an SG, especially with a Hizumitas. The 498T is very hot and modern and in no way pairs well with the 490R. I bought this because Wata is cool, so is Takeshi, and they uses a 59/JB set so I might just swap a set of those in. Overall the build quality is great, but no better than you’ll find on any of most of the stuff the regular Gibson production line has been cranking out in the last couple years.

The one thing I really don’t like is the nut. I don’t think the nut came with this guitar, it looks like Gibson was using Corian nuts in 2010. I think it’s a botched hobbyist job. It’s not a good piece of bone and it’s poorly cut with some deep uneven snaggletoothed slots that remind me of bad 1960s Japanese guitars.

That's a good price, especially if only the nut needs to be replaced and the rest of the guitar is in good shape.
HNGD. Enjoy!

It has occurred to me that Gibson just picked two random pickups to put in these guitars on the assumption that anyone paying this much for a guitar will just put in their dream pickups from Lollar or BKP or something.

I know the new ones (perhaps not the Custom Shop) Gibsons actually come with quick disconnects on the pickups in the cavity. Personally, I find most of Gibsons' new pickups to be really hot. A nice set of jazz pickups from SD or Lollar would 1.) tame the sound and 2.) really add to the articulation.
Unless you just want to "let her rip", of course. My new Eastman has SD 59's in it. I love the neck pickup, the bridge.....still a little hot/muddy for my tastes. Break out your soldering iron!
