New Guitar Day, the Mike Ness Edition

So, a funny thing happened when my wife and I were looking for a backup bass for her.

The Guitar Center we were at had a used PRS SE Custom I actually really liked. But the pickup selector was making a funny noise. Their tech took a look, and also found out a lot of the frets were high. They were going to email corporate to see what they could do for pricing. We went to another GC, and I saw this sitting on the wall.

As I mentioned in another thread, I've been wanting a P90 Les Paul for a while. I've always been a fan of gold tops too. It's metallic gold, and I don't know what the true gold tops are for metallic, but I loved it. My wife asked me if I wanted to try it. I didn't want the guy to haul it down from the upper rack and not get it. I also knew if that thing came off the rack, I was going to buy it. I didn't want to trade in one of my other Epi Les Pauls either.

She told me to take it off the rack.

My first reaction -- which their tech accurately read -- was even grabbing it could tell the neck needed some love and the action was cheese grater. So, he took it off to the bench, tweaked it a few times and I played it.

It was the sound I've been looking for sure.

It is now sitting next to my other Les Paul.

In so many ways, I hit the jackpot when I married my wife. She's a musician and gets the whole thing. She realized I was getting a 3rd Les Paul and she said, "I can't say a damn thing. I'm partial to p-bases"
