if the weather holds out, and it looks like it will, i'm going to stop by the metropark on the way home and snap a few to see how it does.
but i won't be able to really work with it until the weekend, when i can go someplace interesting. well, around here, anyway.

edit: oh yea.....i scored it from Adorama for $160 (no lens) including tax and shipping.
and there isn't a mark on it, anywhere. like new.

I've heard good things about the Alpha. Now shoot something and show us how good it is!
all the photos i've posted so far have been with a Sony Alpha 230. this one is like 4 or 5 steps above that, so i'm hoping.......
but, gonna have to wait til the weekend.
it's the time of the year that the light becomes crap after work.

excuse the fuzzy phone pics, it's never taken good pics, and because i use "real" gear, i don't care.

Congrats on the new/used camera. If you don't have any, get some A mount lenses while you can since Sony's R&D now supports the E mount system.

i have all my lenses from my Alpha A230, that was what i was using until this new one.
my general walk around lens is an A-mount Sigma 18-300 f3.5-6.3 dc macro os hsm, great all around lens. most of the pics i've posted here are with that lens.

I finally broke down and bought a Sony A6000.

Pros: much better camera than my old Nikon D3200. Jpegs from the camera are typically as good as I can get dicking around with the raw files. The Nikon's jpegs were underwhelming. The Sony is small enough to stash in a big jacket pocket or fanny pack.

Cons: battery life is bad. Nikon would last for days, the Sony last for hours. Of course I knew this going in - tiny camera has tiny battery and that lovely viewfinder screen sucks down the juice. Battery charges via USB, so I have to leave the Sony sitting out to charge it. You can buy a battery charger, but doesn't come with it.

That's the plan, as well as an external charger.

The thing is that I know from buying plenty of laptop batteries that most aftermarket lithium batteries are junk (indeed, Amazon reviews for aftermarket batteries are usually lukewarm to cold). So I'm trying to decide if I should roll the dice on aftermarket batteries, or suck it up and buy another Sony battery. A Sony battery and a Sony charger will cost a good fraction of the total cost of the camera.

My local, 45 mile away, camera store sells a brand called Promaster. They're not a lot cheaper than the Nikon ones but they are cheaper. They must be not bad if a store that sells to pros feels they're good enough.

are you sure the camera is a "promaster" ?

all i can find is that they make accessories for cameras, etc.
