Long term storage of a guitar neck...Should I loosen the truss rod completely?

UNACCEPTABLE!
It's going to be at least a year before I mess with this neck again. What say you guitar experts?
 
This seems like a question for r/luthier. Those people will know what storage method yields them the most work!
 
By loosening the strings, this will take tension off of the neck of the guitar. The guitar's neck will automatically change due to temperature and humidity. So loosening the truss will do nothing due to those 2 factors.
 
I'd say no. The truss rod is actually the most rigid part of the neck, without tension the neck is free to go any old way. Maybe if Doug Kauer was still around we'd have a good answer.....
 
Oh I don't think I was clear. This is a neck off the body of the guitar, no string tension at all
 
Brush the neck with melted butter. Roll it in bread crums. Sprinkle it with your favorite seasoning. Then, bake it at 400 degrees F until it’s golden brown.

Oh wait! You said guitar neck. Never mind.

I go with 50% butter, 50% maple syrup. That way you get that classic roasted maple look.
 
I have never worried about this, but it makes a little sense with no strings attached I would probably just loosen a full turn, leaving some tension in the neck. Completely loose would give the neck the opportunity to flex with temps more.

I'm not a luthier, but why would anything need to be done? Assuming it's being stored in a normal/indoor environment, how is leaving it in a case for a year different from occasionally playing it? I would think leaving the strings on and mostly tuned would provide sufficient tension to keep the neck from misbehaving. I'm sure someone will tell me why this is wrong. :shrug:

I'm thinking it would give the neck the opportunity to flex but, only in one direction. Doesn't natter anyway I've thought of how to get the definitive answer. WWWD? We've got to have enough people here who bought a new Warmouth neck. Was there any tension on the truss rod when you received it?
