I took this photo at the 2016 Santa Fe Concorso. The gallery entry reads:

1964 Chevrolet Corvette
Owned by Michael Johnson
of Santa Fe, New Mexico

This 1964 Corvette is one of 38 so-called “tanker” cars built with a 36-gallon gas tank to reduce refueling when competing in road rallies and special racing suspension, large metallic power brakes, and a 3.08:1 ratio differential. Two women special ordered this car in 1964 for use in road rallies. This Ermine White example is equipped with the most powerful 327-cu.-in., V-8 engine ever produced, a fuel-injected design rated at 375 hp. This car has a rare leather interior and power windows and is the only known “tanker” built with this combination of options. This original, unrestored, 27,000-mile Corvette was recently driven in speed trials at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, reaching a top speed of 156 mph.

I love the look of these cars and whenever I saw one when I was a kid it would give me thrill. It was a CORVETTE!

This car is beautiful, but, to be honest: Now, every time I see a car like this I think about how much better it would be with a double-wishbone, adjustable suspension, wide radials, some camber/caster/ toe adjustments, ect...

The body is beautiful but the underpinnings are so basic. I know that the beauty of the car is it's history and I do keep that in mind but I also think of how much understeer that those cars had and how difficult they were to drive at speeds that racecars drive at today.

Just thinking...

Still would love to own a car like that.
